On the evening of February 8, Beijing time, the 94th Oscars in 2022 announced the full list of nominees.
Frankly, this year's awards season has had a tepid feel from the start. This year's Oscars, "The Power of Dogs" led with 12 nominations, which is also the biggest seed for this year's Oscars. Dune followed with 10 nominations, nominating for almost all technical awards, but only the best director nomination, which was surprising. "Belfast" and "West End Story" are both 7 nominations. The first is Best Picture. Most of the 10 films are works that have been recognized many times in the outpost of the awards season, such as "Canine Power", "Don't Look Up", "Belfast", "West End Story", "Dunes" and so on. In terms of heroines, this year's heroine competition can be said to make everyone call "can't understand". For example, the Lady Gaga outpost "Big Four" of "Gucci Family" has only dropped Otti, which is the biggest surprise. In terms of screenplay awards, it is gratifying that "The Worst Man in the World" was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Award, and "Driving My Car" was shortlisted for the Best Adapted Screenplay Award. However, Alan Sokin's "Ricardo Family" missed the original screenplay award nomination.
Let's take a look at the three awards for international film, animation and documentary.
In terms of international films, "Driving My Car" - Japan, "Escape" - Denmark, "The Hand of God" - Italy, "The Worst Man in the World" - Norway, and bhutan's "A Yak in the Classroom". Among them, the director of "The Hand of God", Paulo Sorrentino, was shortlisted for the award for the second time, and he won the best foreign language film for "The City of Beauty".
In terms of animation, the overall strength of this year's animated feature films is relatively weak, and Disney has won three nominations with "Full House of Magic", "Summer Friends Sunny Day" and "Dragon Quest". The remaining two are "Escape" and Sony's "Intelligent Counterattack", and it is worth mentioning that one of the executive producers of "Intelligent Counterattack" is Gu Tianle.
In terms of documentaries, it is surprising that Kim Kwok-wai's new work "Thai Cave Rescue", which won the award for "Freehand Climbing", eventually missed the nomination for the award. "Escape" was shortlisted again, which is also the only film in the history of the Oscars to be shortlisted for the three awards of international film, animation and documentary.
Then a brief look at the technical awards, basically "Dune" has achieved the win.
For Best Cinematography, it's worth mentioning Ali Wegener, the cinematographer of Canine Power, who is the second female photographer in history to be shortlisted for Best Cinematography after Rachel Morrison of DirtWorld. The Best Cinematography Award is also the only one of all the Oscars that does not have a female winner. If she wins the prize, she will make history!
Best Editing, also known as "Little Best Picture", and the nominated "Countdown" was not nominated for Best Picture.
The best visual effects, not surprisingly, should be Dune's. Marvel's two films, Spider-Man: Homeless Heroes, and Legends of the Ten Commandments, were both shortlisted. The other two are Out of Control Player and 007: No Time to Die.
The best sound effects, in addition to "Dune" and "007: No Time to Die", there are also black and white films "Belfast", Westerns "Dog Power" and song and dance film "West End Story".
Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup Styling, these three awards are often in harmony with each other.
As you can see, "Dune" was once again all shortlisted, "Jade Face Love Demon" and "West End Story" were shortlisted for the first two, and "Black and White Witch Kuila" was shortlisted for the last two. "Sirano" single mentions costume design, "Gucci Family" single mentions makeup styling, which is also the only award for these two Olympic hits in this year's Oscars.
Best Score and Best Song, Full House won both awards. Hans Zimmer of the familiar Dune was nominated for Best Score again, and "Parallel Mother" and "Full House of Magic" were also shortlisted for Best Score.
Beyoncé and Billy Elliech were shortlisted for Best Original Song, but it is a shame that Ariana Grande's "Just Look Up" in "Don't Look Up" was not nominated.
As for the short film award, everyone is relatively unfamiliar, so I will not introduce it too much here.
In addition, the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Oscars was won by three artists. They are the actors Samuel Jackson and Liv Uman, and the screenwriter Elaine May.
