The administrative construction of Guiyang has an exact history in the Song Dynasty. When history turned to the page of the Song Dynasty, a name corresponding to the later Guiyang City appeared in the "Qiangzhou Prefecture" set up in the frontier area of the Song Dynasty- Zhizhou. That is to say, during the Song Dynasty, this area of today's Guiyang City had a city wall called Zhizhou. Of course, during the Song Dynasty, There was no city like it is now, not even a city, just a place name, and some people lived here. So, how did Zhizhou become Guizhou?
First of all, let's popularize it, what is a "bondage state"? "Bondage" is a policy of ancient emperors, "羁縻州" refers to the division of political districts based on tribes, tribal leaders were given official positions such as assassin history by the imperial court, and managed the local area for a long time in a hereditary manner. At the same time, the state of Qiangzhi was loyal to the imperial court and paid tribute regularly. Because the prefecture is usually located in the area "near the inland and bordering the frontier", it is also called "border state". The relationship between these "border states" and the Central Dynasty was often loose, and when the title was granted during the tribute, it was automatically canceled without paying tribute, so the name of the state would change frequently.
During the Song Dynasty, there was no fixed seat of governance in this area of Guiyang, let alone a city wall, which belonged to the "jurisdiction between the valleys", and the history books recorded it as "Zhizhou". Historically, The Prefecture was set up in the fourth year (621) of Tang Gaozu Wude, and it is said that because of the square shape of the water in the south of this area, its shape is like a moment, so it takes the name of the Moment Prefecture.
Ancient measuring tools are disciplined and decent
Everyone should know that there is an old saying called "no rules, no squares". In ancient times, rules and moments were used to measure and draw two tools: "moments" are a curved ruler marked with scales folded at right angles, while "rules" are compasses specifically used to draw circles. Probably because rules and rules are often used at the same time, so people are not very clear about the rules, so this "moment state" is also called "rule state" by the people, according to the intonation of the Guiyang dialect, the harmonic sound becomes "Guizhou". This is a saying from the origin of the name Guizhou, such as the "Guiyang Fu Zhi" said: "Zhizhou ruled the city of Guiyang Fu, and Guizhou was the sound of Guizhou." ”

Another theory is that in the seventh year of Song Taizu's Kaibao (974), Pu Gui, the yi leader who occupied Guiyang at that time, took his son to meet the Song Emperor Zhao Kuangyin, and Zhao Kuangyin had such a sentence in the "Book of Song Taizu's Edict of Pu Gui" awarded to Pu Gui: "Guizhou is far away from serving." Since then, this place in Guiyang has had the name "Guizhou". In this statement, why did Zhao Kuangyin change the name of Zhizhou to Guizhou? Some scholars believe that the emperor of the Song Dynasty changed the word "moment" to the word "gui" out of the importance of the state of the moment.
Nowadays, people cannot accurately judge the real reason for the change of Guizhou to Guizhou, but there is no doubt that history has branded this place in Guiyang as Guizhou. Therefore, during the Song Dynasty, Guizhou was the name of this area of Guiyang. That is to say, there was no Guiyang at that time, only Guizhou.
During the Song Dynasty, Guizhou (that is, the area of today's Guiyang) did not even have a city wall, so it could not be regarded as a city in the true sense. So when did Guizhou have a city wall?
