Mama Wu is actually the same as Ah Q, both from poor and low-class backgrounds, and is a maid in Grandpa Zhao's family.
And she is also a widow, and is joked by Ah Q as a "little widow". Judging from the title of "ma", Mama Wu may be older than Ah Q, who is less than thirty years old.
The story of Mama Wu and Ah Q originated from a thought awakening of Ah Q. He twisted her face as he bullied a young nun who was weaker than himself. The little nun scolded, "This cut off the grandchild of Ah Q!" ”
After the little nun left, Ah Q felt that his thumb and index finger were smoother than usual, and from "cutting off his children and grandchildren", he thought of his life's major event: there should be a woman.
On this day, Wu Mama told Ah Q to go to the Zhao family to scoop rice, originally if it was at someone else's house, after dinner, you could finish work and go back, but the Zhao government allowed Ah Q to light the lamp to scoop rice, so there was this night drama.
At that time, Ah Q and Wu Mama were lonely men and widows, and there was only one lone lamp. While taking advantage of the light to absorb the soles of her shoes, Mama Wu talked to Ah Q at home——
"The wife has not eaten for two days, because the old man wants to buy a small one..."
"Our young grandmother is going to have a baby in August..."
Ah Q was originally overwhelmed by the "woman" and "succession" thing, listened to Wu Mama's words, suddenly put down the pipe, stood up, and said: "I am sleepy with you, I am sleepy with you!" Then he rushed forward and knelt down on her.
In such a situation, the average person should directly refuse, run away from the wilderness, or throw a big slap and scold, but Wu Mama did not.
The book writes about Mama Wu's reaction:

"Ahhh!" Mama Wu was stunned for a moment, suddenly trembled, shouted and ran outside, and ran and shouted, as if she was crying later.
Soon after, Mrs. Zhao's son took a large bamboo bar and stood in front of Ah Q and beat him to the head.
When Ah Q returned to the Zhao Mansion again, there was a large group of people around, and it turned out that Mama Wu was so humiliated that she wanted to hang herself.
Later, under the persecution of the local security and The Zhao family, Ah Q signed five "unequal treaties", and all the belongings and jobs were gone. Moreover, after hitting here, the women of Weizhuang saw him hiding like a plague god, and when the men saw him, they became more and more bullied, and he couldn't go on mixing.
Ah Q suddenly knelt down to Ask For Pleasure to Mama Wu, it was normal for Mama Wu to be frightened, and it was reasonable to run to file a complaint, she was originally a victim.
But she cried and made a big fuss and performed a play of hanging herself, which was inevitably a big deal. After all, Ah Q didn't touch her at all, just knelt down and confessed.
So why did Mama Wu have such an overreaction?
On this issue, it is generally believed that the feudal concept of chastity of women at that time was too strong. In another of Lu Xun's novels, Xiang Lin's sister-in-law is also depressed about her remarriage. It shows that women at that time regarded fame and dignity more than life!
But from the psychological analysis of Wu Ma, this matter is not so simple.
First of all, Mama Wu is a widow, she has been absent for a long time, and her heart is actually lonely and depressed.
Why would she tell Ah Q about the old man buying a little wife and a young grandmother to have children at night? On the one hand, a woman has a nature to like gossip, and on the other hand, it is also to dispel loneliness, indicating that she is very concerned about these things in her heart.
Ah Q needs a woman, while Mama Wu doesn't need a man. However, Mama Wu does not need a man like Ah Q.
Ah Q is very poor, fatherless and motherless, has no fixed place to live, the job is unstable, the woman followed him, and he suffered all his life.
Ah Q is also very ugly, with leprosy scars on his head. In the face of ugly men, women are physiologically resistant.
Moreover, Ah Q has a humble character, will gamble money, so as to cause trouble, others scold him and beat him, he can't win the fight, he kneels down and begs for forgiveness, saying that he is an animal and a worm. Such a self-effacing and idle person is also difficult to please women.
Therefore, don't look at Mama Wu's willingness to share gossip with Ah Q, in fact, like most people, she looks down on him.
Women will feel lower their value in the face of the show of love from men they despise.
When Ah Q said "I want to sleep with you", although Mama Wu was physically unscathed, she was greatly humiliated mentally, and she subconsciously felt that Ah Q was not worthy of herself and did not deserve to say such a thing to her.
She was stunned for a while at first, because she was shocked, then trembled because she was afraid, and then shouted and cried at the same time, it was sad and desperate, and it was a great shame to be shown love by a man like Ah Q.
Later, she hanged herself, not necessarily because she wanted to blackmail Ah Q, but to prove her innocence.
It is written in the novel that after Mama Wu hanged herself and was rescued, she was dragged out of the room and just cried. The seventh sister-in-law of the visitor Zou said:
"Who doesn't know you're serious... Short-sightedness is unattainable. ”
This shows that Mama Wu hanged herself to show her "seriousness".
Just imagine, if the matter of Ah Q's pleasure was spread, although they actually had nothing to do with it, but the people outside would still point fingers at Wu Mama, saying that she had an affair with Ah Q.
According to the "victim guilt theory", especially in that era, widows were not many in front of the door, and women, even if they were not at all wrong, would be accused of seducing men.
Therefore, Mama Wu staged a hanging play for self-preservation, drawing a clear line with Ah Q, and maintaining her innocent reputation.
However, the consequence of such an act is to trap A Q in injustice. Ah Q lost his job, became an adulterous stick and was spurned by the whole town, and later became so poor that he was about to starve to death, all caused by Mama Wu's overreaction.
Regarding the ending of Wu Ma, it is written in the novel that after Ah Q went out to mix for a few years and returned, "Wu Mama has been gone for a long time and does not know where."
This shows that she left Mrs. Zhao's house and left Weizhuang. The reason for leaving is probably to avoid the gossip of Weizhuang.
So after the matter got big, whether it was Ah Q or Wu Ma, they didn't get a good ending. And whether Ah Q harmed Wu Ma, or Wu Ma hurt Ah Q, this is an inexplicable question.
