Overseas network on January 18, the UNITED States media reported that due to the new crown epidemic, the shortage of cleaning staff, coupled with the peak of holiday gift packaging waste, some cities in the United States must delay or suspend garbage collection. The move infuriated the population: the government was unable to perform this most basic function.

According to the Associated Press, the national waste crisis has broken out in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville, Philadelphia and other cities; these cities are because of the shortage of cleaning manpower, so the suspension of recycling or other cleaning operations, resulting in a large number of recyclables, garbage, dead leaves piled up on the streets, not only plague residents, but also block ditches or sidewalks.

Madelyn Rubin, a Jacksonville resident, said the situation felt "humiliating." Nashville City Councilwoman Freddie O'Connell said he was "stunned that the government had no replacement or backup plan" and that it felt like "governance had failed." Liliana Bakhtiari, a member of the Atlanta City Council, said she was "frustrated" by the large number of phone calls, emails and visits she received every day.

This is the third time the U.S. has experienced a waste crisis due to the outbreak, the first two times in the early days of the outbreak and when the Delta strain heated up last summer. The North American Solid Waste Association (SWANA) warned the U.S. government in December that cleaning manpower in the United States would be strained. (Overseas Network Hou Xingchuan)
