Everybody: Araujo wants a salary increase to renew his contract, and the coming weeks will be crucial to reaching a deal

According to the Daily Sports Newspaper, Barca defender Araujo wants his value on the pitch to be recognized, so he will ask for a salary increase to renew his contract.

Despite his young age, Araujo has grown to become a leader in Barca's backline. If Barca can renew his contract with the Uruguayan centre-back, he will undoubtedly become one of the team's benchmark players in the future. For Alemani, Barca's executive in charge of the athletics space, after prioritizing the renewal of contracts with Fati and Pedri, they must now deal with Araujo's request. Because, with the performance and influence of Uruguayan centre-backs, he has surpassed Fati and Pedri.

Barca and Araujo have opened talks to renew their contracts, but differences remain. Araujo's contract with Barca expires in 2023 and he currently earns just €900,000 a year, one of the lowest-paid players in the first team. Although he knows he won't get a salary similar to that of some veterans, he wants to be treated at least roughly the same way as some of the young players who have recently renewed their contracts.

At the time of the first contact, Barca offered an annual salary of much less than €6 million. Some sources said that Barca offered an annual salary of only about 3 million euros, which is not a definite figure, but a simple attempt.

If this is the annual salary that Barca will eventually offer, Araujo will not renew the club's contract, and they hope that in the next few days Barca will be able to give an offer close to their psychological expectations. Araujo will also be watching Barca's attempts to sign other top centre-backs, with the Red and Blues likely to offer higher salaries.

Considering the good relationship with Barca, Araujo and his own brokerage team have always been honest. If the Uruguayan centre-back does not renew his contract, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea will all try to sign him this summer, something that the player himself is not willing to consider at the moment. The renewal of Araujo's contract in the coming weeks will be crucial and Barca will have to offer a renewal bid that will impress the Uruguayan.
