TSMC uses lithium iron phosphate batteries and immersive heat dissipation technology in the room: it will save 400 million kWh of electricity per year

TSMC is the world's largest semiconductor wafer foundry, the annual power consumption is amazing, electricity is also a huge cost, the company has now begun to fully turn to green energy, the computer room should be powered by lithium iron phosphate, heat dissipation upgrade immersive liquid cooling, is expected to save 400 million kWh per year from 2030.

According to reports, TSMC recently announced the upgrade of the power supply system of the computer room, the lead-acid battery and UPS uninterrupted power supply system previously used will be eliminated and upgraded to a lithium iron phosphate DC power supply system, with higher power supply efficiency.

In addition to improving the power supply system, another major power consumer is the computer room cooling system, TSMC will cooperate with Delta, GIGABYTE, Zhibang, 3M and other companies to develop immersive cooling technology, which is expected to reduce the energy consumption of the server by 15% to 30%.

This immersive liquid-cooled cooling system can soak the server in a sealing tank, and the temperature of the system and chip does not exceed 50 degrees, which not only has a better heat dissipation effect, but also improves the operating performance by 10%.

TSMC's immersive cooling system was piloted at the 12B fab in Q4 last year, and will be introduced into the 18A fab in Q1 this year, and it is expected to save 400 million kWh of electricity per year from 2030.
