In March 1949, on the eve of the liberation of Taiyuan, Shanxi, Yan Xishan fled to Nanjing in the name of a meeting, preparing to flee from Nanjing to Taiwan with Chiang Kai-shek as planned. Yan Xishan told this sister of his own before going to Nanjing to let her stay and preside over the overall situation, in fact, he wanted her to stabilize the people's hearts. It wasn't long before she and her confidants flew out of Taiyuan. However, it did not take long for the People's Liberation Army to come, the airfield was lost, and Yan Huiqing fled to Taiwan with Yan Xishan before the People's Liberation Army was surrounded.
In April 1949, the People's Liberation Army surrounded Taiyuan, yan Huiqing knew that he could not escape and prepared to commit suicide with his lover Liang Huazhi, so on April 24, the People's Liberation Army launched a general attack on Taiyuan, and launched a street battle in Taiyuan. Yan Xishan's remaining henchmen were inferior to the People's Liberation Army and lost control of Taiyuan. Yan Huiqing had originally planned to flee by plane with one of Liang Hua, but now it was not possible, so they committed suicide by taking poison in the basement of the Taiyuan Appeasement Office. Just before Yan Huiqing committed suicide, Liang Huazhi wrote a telegram.
Although Yan Huiqing had committed suicide, her death could further her relationship with Chiang Kai-shek, so he compiled a list of "Five Hundred Perfect People in Taiyuan" based on the telegram sent to him by Yan Huiqing and obtained political capital for himself.
After Chiang Kai-shek got the list, he also publicized it, and soon after Yan Xishan fled to Taiwan with Chiang Kai-shek and never returned to his hometown. His sister Yan Huiqing was buried in a mass burial post outside Taiyuan City, which was really very tragic.
