In the Red 4th 10th Division, the political commissar was mistakenly killed, the division commander had been a farmer for decades, and the chief of staff became a founding lieutenant general

In April 1936, the Red Fourth Front lost its strength in the south, and its troops were sharply reduced from more than 80,000 to more than 40,000 people. With the exception of the 4th and 9th Armies, which still have 4 divisions each under their command, the remaining corps were drawn down. Today we will talk about the story and ending of the three commanders of the 10th Division of the 4th Army. At that time, the three chief officers of the 10th Division were Yu Jiashou, the commander of the division, Ye Daozhi, the political commissar, and Fan Chaoli, the chief of staff.

Let's start with political commissar Ye Daozhi. Born in 1910 in Huang'an, Hubei Province, Ye Daozhi joined the Red Army at the age of 18 and followed the troops to participate in famous battles such as Huang'an, Shanghuang, Sujiabu and Huangguang, and was promoted to regimental commander by virtue of his military achievements. After Maogong joined the division, Ye Daozhi became the commander of the 93rd Division of the Red 31st Army, and soon led his troops to follow Zhang Guotao south. In April 1936, Ye Daozhi was transferred to the Red 4th Army and served as the political commissar of the 10th Division.

After Hongsi arrived in northern Shaanxi, Ye Daozhi entered kang da to study. Soon after the Outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, he was sent to work in the New Fourth Army as the deputy commander of the Fourth Regiment of the Second Detachment. The regiment was reorganized from 4 guerrilla units active in Fujian during the Red Army period, and the soldiers were basically Fujianese, speaking Hokkien dialect, Ye Daozhi could not understand it at all, coupled with the difference in living habits, which made him very depressed. So Ye Daozhi, who was in a bad mood, complained a little, and as a result, he was demoted to the battalion commander of the special agent battalion.

The cadres at the division level during the Red Army period have now become a small battalion commander, and Ye Daozhi is very confused and decides to leave the New Fourth Army and return to the Eighth Route Army to work. On July 31, 1938, Ye Daozhi left with a gun in the name of inspecting the terrain. When Ye Ting learned of this, he was very angry and mistakenly believed that Ye Daozhi was going to defect, so he sent someone to arrest him back. In the end, Ye Daozhi was characterized as a "battlefield escape", and Ye Ting shot him at the age of 28 after reporting to him for approval by Gu Zhutong, commander of the Third Theater. In October 1983, the General Political Department rehabilitated Ip Dao-chi and restored his reputation.

Having said that political commissar Ye Daozhi, let's look at the division commander Yu Jiashou. Yu Jiashou, a native of Macheng, Hubei Province, was born in 1914 and officially joined the Red Army after the Jute Uprising. After that, Yu Jiashou followed the troops to fight against the enemy in the revolutionary base area of Eyu and Anhui and the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Region, and made countless battle achievements, and in April 1936, Yu Jiashou was promoted to the commander of the Red 10th Division. After the three main forces of the Red Army met the division, Yu Jiashou was ordered to lead his troops to participate in the Battle of Dalachi.

Due to the stubborn resistance of the enemy, the Red Army has not been able to break through, and Yu Jiashou personally led people to charge in a hurry, unfortunately, his right eye was seriously injured, and he lost his sight shortly after. After arriving in northern Shaanxi, Yu Jiashou entered the Kang University to study. Soon after, Kang Da began to "approve Zhang", some of the generals of the Red Fourth were also affected, and Yu Jiashou was once imprisoned, but was soon released. At that time, he was not the only one like Yu Jiashou, Xu Shiyou had a similar experience.

However, unlike Xu Shiyou, Yu Jiashou has always been grumpy about this matter, and finally decided to leave the army and return to Dabie Mountain to find Gao Jingting to fight a guerrilla war. In this way, Yu Jiashou secretly left the army, and when his superiors discovered this, they removed him from kang da and treated him as a defection. After Yu Jiashou returned to Dabie Mountain, he did not find Gao Jingting, and had no choice but to return to his hometown to become a farmer. In April 1949, After Yu Jiashou, who had been farming in his hometown for more than ten years, learned of the news that his old superior Wang Hongkun had served as the deputy commander of the Hubei Military Region, he decided to ask the old leader to return to the team.

Wang Hongkun was very happy to see his old subordinate Yu Jiashou, but he was very embarrassed by his request to return to the team. At that time, Yu Jiashou left the team without permission, was characterized as a "defection", and has been removed. Now he asked to be returned to the team, and he was not good at handling it. Besides, the whole country is about to be liberated, many soldiers have to be restored, and Yu Jiashou's request to return to the army at this time is also a bit out of place. In the end, Wang Hongkun advised Yu Jiashou to go home and engage in production with peace of mind, which was also a contribution to the country. In this way, Yu Jiashou returned to his hometown and continued to farm. In 1983, Yu Jiashou died of illness in Macheng at the age of 69.

Finally, let's talk about Fan Chaoli, chief of staff of the Red 10th Division. Fan Chaoli, a native of Xinxian County, Henan Province, was born in 1914 to his parents who farmed for a living. Although the family was not rich, his father still gritted his teeth and sent him to school, and at the age of 11, the family really had no money, and Fan Chaoli was forced to drop out of school. Soon after, he came to an oil mill as an apprentice, got up early and went to bed late every day, did all kinds of chores, and suffered a lot. In 1930, at the age of 16, Fan Chaoli joined the Ranks of the Red Army and thus embarked on the revolutionary road.

During the Red Army period, Fan Chaoli followed the troops around and made many military achievements, and in April 1936, he was transferred to the chief of staff of the 10th Division of the Red 4th Army, and became a partner with Ye Daozhi and Yu Jiashou. After the three main forces of the Red Army met the division, Fan Chaoli also studied at kang da for a period of time. Soon after the Outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Fan Chaoli served as the chief of staff of the 769th Regiment of the 385th Brigade of the 129th Division, assisting the regimental commander Chen Xilian in commanding the night attack on Yangmingbao, blowing up 24 enemy planes in one fell swoop. After that, Fan Chaoli successively served as the chief of staff of the newly formed 385 Brigade, the chief of staff of the Ji'nan Military Region, and the commander of the 4th Sub-district of the Ji'nan Military Region.

After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Fan Chaoli participated in the War of Liberation, serving as the deputy commander of the 2nd Column of the Jinji-Hebei Luyu Field Army and the deputy commander of the 10th Army of the Erye Army. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Fan Chaoli successively served as the commander of the 14th Army and the deputy commander of the Jinan Military Region, and was awarded the rank of lieutenant general in 1955. In 2012, General Fan Chaoli died of illness at the age of 98. If Yu Jiashou had not left the team with emotions, he should have been a lieutenant general when he was awarded the title in 55 years. It can be seen how important it is to choose and persist in a person's life.
