For the sake of prudence, he decided to personally lead a capable force to the Wuyin Mountain first to familiarize himself with the terrain and enemy situation, and the large army was led by the political commissar to follow up.
Immediately afterward, Song Yulin led the vanguard troops to march all the way and took the lead in coming to a village north of Wuyin Mountain that night.
According to the established plan, the 198th Division should be docked with the Korean People's Army to complete the defense handover.
But what Song Yulin did not expect was that the People's Army actually withdrew from Wuyin Mountain in advance without informing our army, leaving only an empty mountain that was undefended!
This sudden situation surprised Song Yulin, who was thinking hard when suddenly a soldier came to report that two suspicious people had been arrested around the village, most likely agents installed by the South Korean Army.
After interrogation, the two suspicious men confessed to the identity of the agents and confessed that the South Korean Eighth Division had entered Hengcheng, south of Wuyin Mountain, and planned to raid Wuyin Mountain in the early morning of the next day.
At this time, song Yulin was undoubtedly facing a bunch of difficult problems: the early withdrawal of the people's army not only made it impossible for our army to quickly take over the defense, but also impossible to familiarize ourselves with the terrain and terrain on the mountain and the key points of defense in just a few hours.
What's more, at that time, the wind and snow were thick, and the main force led by the political commissar would not arrive at least the next morning, and the enemy would launch an attack in the early morning, and once they found that the wuyin mountain troops were weak, the consequences were unimaginable!
At this critical juncture, Song Yulin fell into bitter thought, her brow twisted into a knot, but she could not think of a way to break the enemy.
Just at this moment, a guard took out an enamel jar and prepared to boil some boiling water for the division commander to drink, but accidentally dropped the enamel jar and the lid on the ground together, rolling right to Song Yulin's feet, and there was a bang, interrupting his train of thought.
"What's going on?" Song Yulin raised her head and asked.
"The newspaper, the report division commander ... I accidentally knocked over the teapot..." the guard stammered.
"Oh, it doesn't matter now, tomorrow morning if you want to fight in covert combat, you can't be so careless."
Song Yulin said while picking up the enamel jar and lid, and was preparing to hand it over to the guards, when suddenly her eyes lit up, and if she had some understanding, she then clapped her hands and laughed: "Haha, just use this method to deal with the enemy!" ”

Subsequently, Song Yulin asked the vanguard troops to implement the "empty city plan" through several measures:
The first is to organize the ordinary people of several villages around Wuyin Mountain, let them put on a batch of uniforms left by the People's Army after the withdrawal of the People's Army, disguise themselves as the troops of the People's Army, and scatter them in various passes south of wuyin Mountain, creating the illusion that our army has sufficient troops.
The second is to ignite several piles of half-dried and half-wet firewood on several hills of Wuyin Mountain, deliberately exposing the target and confusing the enemy.
The third is to speed up the march with the main force led by the political commissar and ask them to rush to Wuyin Mountain before dawn.
Fourth, they escorted two agents through several tightly fortified passes, caves, and woods, and created the illusion that our army frequently dispatched troops and generals, and then deliberately let the two agents go and let them vent their messages.
Through this series of measures, the South Korean Eighth Division was indeed confused, thinking that Goyin Mountain was under the tight seal of the volunteer army, and did not dare to launch a hasty attack all day.
Thanks to this extremely precious day, the main force of the 198th Division was able to calmly deploy its defenses after arriving at Wuyin Mountain and was fully prepared for battle.
When the enemy army was forced to launch a large-scale attack under the orders of Shangfeng, Song Yulin commanded the commanders and fighters of the whole division to fight bravely, not only successfully dividing and annihilating the Eighth Division of South Korea, but also repelling the US Second Division and the Third Division of the South Korean Army that had come to reinforcement.
After five days and nights of fierce fighting, the 198th Division repelled hundreds of enemy attacks, annihilated more than 1,500 enemy troops, smashed the enemy's conspiracy to enter and occupy Hongchuan, and won a great victory in the history of the famous army.
