An intelligence foiled a major enemy plot, and the famous general Zheng Weishan did not know the source of the intelligence until many years later

In late October 1948, Lao Jiang conspired with Fu Yisheng, then commander of the North China "Suppression General", to sneak attack Shijiazhuang and Xibaipo in order to save the northeast battlefield.

Unexpectedly, this top-secret information was intercepted by our side on the same day and reported to my high command.

To this end, the Supreme Command urgently ordered Zheng Weishan, commander of the Third Column of the North China Military Region, to lead his troops to the south at a rapid pace, and to block Fu Yisheng's sneak attack on the troops with the Seventh Column.

The sudden appearance of the three columns of the People's Liberation Army surprised the enemy, and coupled with the three telegrams of the supreme commander exposing this major conspiracy of the enemy, Fu Yisheng had to withdraw his troops.

Although this top-secret intelligence foiled the enemy's major conspiracy and also made the famous general Zheng Weishan a meritorious contribution, Zheng Weishan has always been unclear about the channels from which the information was obtained and by whom.

He only knew that Nie Zong had mentioned the five words "confirmed according to Beiping" on the phone, and later saw that the first five words of the CMC telegram were also "confirmed according to Beiping."

Who is beiping, how did they get such top-secret information? This question has been buried in Zheng Weishan's heart, and it has lingered in the decades since.

It wasn't until 31 years later, one day at the end of January 1979, that Zheng Weishan came across a January 24 copy of the People's Daily, which featured an article by Nie Shuai titled "Fighting on the Second Front— Remembering Liu Ren."

Zheng Weishan learned from the text that Liu Ren was one of the unsung heroes who discovered Jiang Fu's sneak plot and urgently reported it.

This unexpected gain made Zheng Weishan very excited, he was driven by a complex emotion, and he wanted to make this matter clear.

After several visits, Zheng Weishan finally found out the source of the top-secret intelligence from the personnel working in the underground party in Beiping at that time, and solved the five-character mystery that had been buried for 31 years.

In early October 1948, a month after the Liaoshen Campaign began, the elder Jiang came from Shenyang to Beiping. It seems that on the same day, Liu Ren, director of the City Work Department of the North China Bureau, was instructed by Nie Shuai to actively carry out work in the Beiping underground party and understand the movements of old Chiang Kai-shek.

This is clearly an extremely important but extremely difficult task.

At that time, although there was a fierce struggle between light and darkness, progress and reaction, after all, it was a dark world with dense haze, black clouds pressing down on the city, and jackals everywhere.

In particular, after the enemy's situation on the battlefield was tight, in order to fight to the death, they tried every means to strengthen their external rule and internal control.

In such a harsh environment, it is not easy to obtain the core secrets of the enemy.

However, under the guidance of the principle of "shading the elite, laying ambush for a long time, accumulating strength, and waiting for the opportunity" under the guidance of the Beiping underground party, which was specifically led by Liu Ren, after a long period of painstaking management, it already had a fairly deep foundation.

After study, the Beiping underground organization entrusted the heavy task of clarifying the movements of old Chiang Kai-shek to Liu Shiping, an underground party member.

At that time, there were many reactionary newspapers in Peiping, one of which was the famous Yishi Bao. Liu Shiping broke into Yishi Bao in his early years and was the director of the newspaper's interview department.

With this profession and the identity of the director of the interview department, there are also conditions for extensive contacts with reactionary figures.

Those who had the deepest contacts with Liu Shiping were Eyousan, commander of the 12th Brigade of the Reorganized Cavalry; Du Changcheng, commander of the North China Special Station of the Enemy's Secret Bureau and commander of the North China "Suppression General" Demolition Brigade; and Liu Jianlong, commander of the Third Battalion of the Gendarmerie.

Liu Shiping and the three of them are all Suiyuan fellow villagers, and together with Eyousan and Du Changcheng, they are still classmates who grew up in middle school. They lived very closely, and whenever they met, they drank and talked about everything, as if they had become a "gang".

On the morning of October 23, in front of the gate of the "Suppression General" in North China, there were many sentries, the security was tight, and pedestrians were far away.

Just after 10 o'clock, some military dignitaries came out. Some of them were in a hurry, and seemed to be anxious to get on the bus and hurry; others were overjoyed, as if something good was waiting for them. Among them, there are Eyousan and Du Great Wall.

The Twelfth Cavalry Brigade of Eyousan had an office in Ping near the beekeeping lane in Xicheng, which was nominally an office, but it was actually an exchange for Eyousan to engage in political (administrative) speculation, and a comfortable nest for eating, drinking, and having fun.

Liu Shiping also often attends their gatherings here. Today, when he learned that Fu headquarters had held a meeting of key members, Liu Shiping took the initiative to invite E, Du, and Liu to gather here.

Although E, Du, and Liu were all Suiyuan people, they were not a faction with Fu Yisheng, and to be precise, they had contradictions with Fu and at least were estranged.

Although Eyousan was the cavalry brigade commander of the Fu clan, he was born in the ninth period of Huangpu and carried the brand of the Chiang clan; the Secrecy Bureau under Du Changcheng and the gendarmerie unit under Liu Jianlong were themselves the concubines of the Concubine Lineage, which was a layer.

On another level, from about 1926, when Yan Xishan's forces entered Suiyuan and acted as the capital of Suiyuan by Shang Zhen, until more than 20 years in 1948, the people who ruled Suiyuan were all Shanxi people. The Suiyuan people were always disgusted with the "Jin people ruling Sui", and Fu Yisheng ruled for the longest time, and naturally had the deepest dislike for Fu.

Liu Shiping knew all this very well, so at the banquet, he was attentive and exhorted, and on the other hand, he made a statement that he was agitated: "Old Fu has been promoted to a position for a year, and after Zhuang Yan, he has suffered defeats in succession, and has attacked all over the city, making your Twelfth Brigade miserable." Alas, let's check the Sui people really X nests! ”

"Who says it's not?" Eyousan was drunk and agreed, and then said, "There is an order from the commission, and I want Old Fu to go to the old lair of the Communist Party tomorrow." This time, the foolish brother is going to show his skills, let them see how powerful we are to detect the people. Dude, wait and see! ”

Liu Shiping couldn't help but be taken aback, but he immediately calmed down, cups and cups, pretended to be crazy, and asked the enemy about this top-secret conspiracy.

The feast lasted until the early hours of the next morning. Liu Shiping thought to himself that he must quickly report this important situation to his superiors, so he took advantage of the fact that Eyousan was asleep and did not wake up, bid farewell to Du and Liu, and calmly left.

He remembered that Du Changcheng had mentioned that his demolition brigade had already loaded a car at Xizhimen Station and was ready to leave, so he decided to go and see it for himself, just in case there was deception.

Liu Shiping was impatient and quickly ran to the entrance of Xizhimen Station. He took advantage of the special status of the interview director to successfully pass the interrogation and enter the station.

I saw that the soldiers on the platform were rushing back and forth, and the train full of military supplies, vehicles, and horses had been camouflaged; the whole station was noisy and shouting, which was a scene of military brigades waiting for orders to go out.

Liu Shiping skillfully ascertained the number of the troops, the direction of the train, and the starting time, and then, with a sense of triumphant satisfaction, immediately turned back and rushed to Li Bingquan's residence.

Around 10 o'clock, this extremely important and urgent top-secret information became an invisible radio wave, transmitted to the City Engineering Department, to the North China Military Region, to the Supreme Command...

At this point, Zheng Weishan finally solved the question of "confirming according to Beiping" that had been buried in his heart for 31 years, and he later wrote about it in his memoirs.
