When the Volunteers clashed with the U.S. Founding Fathers Division, why did a 19-year-old recruit shine?

On November 2, 1951, the 421st Regiment of the 141st Division of the 47th Army of the Volunteer Army was ordered to launch an attack on the American troops stationed on the unnamed heights of Nanshan in Xincun.

It is a lonely mountain more than 100 meters high, about 1500 meters long from north to south, about 500 meters wide from east to west, with three protruding hills.

But its position was in front of the Volunteer Army's 346.6 hill position, posing no small threat.

The volunteers were confronted by the famous "Founding Fathers Division", the Eighth Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division, who placed a company and a firearms platoon on an unnamed plateau.

Bunkers and fortifications were built on the positions, three barbed wire fences and mine laying in front of the positions, and artillery positions were placed on several large hills not far behind.

The 2nd Battalion of the 421st Regiment organized several surveys of the terrain after receiving the mission. After careful organization, he approached the enemy on the night of November 1.

At more than 1 o'clock in the morning of the next day, the general offensive began, and dozens of artillery pieces of the volunteer army violently bombarded the Nanshan Heights of Xincun and the enemy's deep artillery positions for more than 20 minutes.

As soon as the shelling stopped, the fifth and sixth companies of the second battalion, which were on a surprise mission, launched a charge. The warriors quickly passed through the 500-meter open field and took two hills in a row.

The enemy fled to the last hill in an attempt to resist with superior firepower.

Five companies and five squads braved enemy crossfire to charge from the left flank of the mountain. Under the cover of the fire of their comrades, the demolition team bravely exploded two barbed wire nets and blasted the path of the charge.

Although the soldier Tang Xueli was only 19 years old and a recruit who had been in the army for less than a year, he showed extraordinary composure and sophistication, and he shined in this battle.

When breaking through the enemy's second barbed wire, Tang Xueli's left hand was wounded, he could not care about bandaging, quickly threw several grenades into the enemy's bunker, killed more than a dozen enemies, and then continued to rush forward along the communication trench.

The U.S. army found that Tang Xueli had rushed up and hurriedly threw a grenade. With a roar, Tang Xueli's face was scratched by shrapnel, but he desperately rushed up and shouted in English: "Surrender your gun and don't kill!" ”

The enemy in the bunker shouted "surrender" while coldly firing a shot.

Fortunately, this shot did not hit Tang Xueli, and he scolded angrily and threw a grenade at the bunker.

One enemy was killed, one was wounded, and another climbed out of the bunker shouting "I surrender, I surrender."

In the ensuing battle, Tang Xueli found that there were still many enemies hiding in the shadows to fight the volunteers, and he was very angry and decided to teach these enemies a harsh lesson.

To this end, Tang Xueli held him a submachine gun and used his rapid movement and quick hands to fight those sneaky enemies.

He suddenly attacked the enemy bunkers at a rapid pace, and sometimes crouched in a hidden place to guard the "plant" and wait for the "rabbit", fighting extremely flexibly and skillfully, and destroyed many enemies.

While cleaning up the battlefield, Tang Xueli did not take two steps when he was blocked by the enemy who was killed on the ground. As he stepped over a dead enemy soldier, he noticed that he seemed to be squirming and thought he was blind.

Just as he was about to take a step forward, an enemy soldier who had been "killed" automatically rolled over and crashed into his feet. He kicked it with his foot, the other party did not move, he took a closer look, there was no trace of blood on the person's body, he touched his chest with his hand, but it was warm...

Tang Xueli had counted in his heart, so he shouted, "Get up, don't pretend to be dead!" ”

However, the American soldiers who pretended to be dead did not react at all.

With a "click", Tang Xueli deliberately pulled the bolt of the gun, touched the muzzle of the gun to the nose of the enemy soldier, and shouted in English: "Follow me, lenient you!" ”

The enemy soldiers could not hold on, so they had to get up and raise their hands.

Another American enemy who was pretending to be dead also rolled over, raised his hands and kept shouting: "Surrender! leniency! ”

After dawn, when Tang Xueli took the captives to the Sixth Company, the blood on his face had not yet dried. The hygienist bandaged the wound on his left hand and rubbed medicine on the wound on his face.

The instructor advised Tang Xueli to go down and rest, and he smiled and said, "What is this injury?" Turned and rushed up the hill again.

In this fierce battle of less than two hours, the whole battalion annihilated more than 240 enemy people, captured more than 20 enemy, and captured 3 guns of various kinds and 8 light and heavy machine guns. Tang Xueli alone killed and wounded 18 enemies and captured 3 enemies, which can be said to be a great shine.

Interestingly, although the 344 highlands where the US troops are stationed are only less than 250 meters away from the Xincun Nanshan Highlands, they watched more than 200 of their comrades being annihilated, but they did not dare to reinforce, but blindly released their guns, but it was like cheering for the volunteers.

After listening to the battle report of the 421st Regiment, division commander Ye Jianmin (major general in 1955) said happily: "In the face of the so-called 'Founding Father Division' of the US army, a 19-year-old recruit can also play such an outstanding performance, so what invincible enemy is our troops?" ”

After he saw Tang Xueli, he said with deep feeling: "Not everyone is born a warrior, but even if they are new recruits, as long as they have a firm determination to defeat the enemy, and are good at learning and are not afraid of sacrifice, they can become excellent warriors like Tang Xueli!" ”

At the battle summary meeting of the whole division, Ye Jianmin especially praised Tang Xueli's heroic performance in the battle and called on the commanders and fighters of the whole division to learn from him.

Interestingly, in 1997, General Ye Jianmin wrote his autobiography "Thoughts on Hundred Battles" in detail about Tang Xueli's brilliant performance in the battle of the nameless highlands in the new village of Nanshan.
