In February 1951, the 21-year-old Fu Yongfu was appointed deputy battalion commander of the third battalion of the 577th Regiment of the 193rd Division of the 65th Army of the Volunteer Army, and crossed the Yalu River with the troops to fight in Korea.
After the volunteer army broke through the Linjin River in May of the same year, Fu Yongfu was ordered to act as the battalion commander and led the whole battalion to retreat to Lianchuan near the 38th Line to take on the task of blocking the attack.
Lianchuan is more than 30 kilometers away from the 38th Line, which is the key point of railways and highways, and its strategic position is very important.
At dusk on this day, after Fu Yongfu and his whole battalion arrived at the Lianchuan Heights, he immediately organized cadres of various companies to observe the terrain and assign tasks.
The Seventh and Eighth Companies each guarded a hill at an altitude of more than 200 meters, and the battalion command post was located on a small hill between the two mountains, and the Ninth Company was the reserve of the battalion.
The hard soil on the mountain and the overgrowth of trees and weeds have brought many difficulties to the construction of the fortifications. Fu Yongfu led the commanders and fighters to work hard all night despite the fatigue of the days of hasty marching, and basically repaired the simple fortifications before dawn.
Fu Yongfu ordered some people to rest quickly, and some people continued to strengthen the fortifications.
At noon the next day, a mechanized division of the US Army, under the cover of aircraft, drove toward Lianchuan and rapidly deployed on both sides of the road.
At more than 2 o'clock in the afternoon, several enemy planes indiscriminately bombarded the positions of the three battalions, and dozens of cannons and more than a dozen tanks opened fierce fire on the hill. After about 20 minutes of touching, several more planes came circling and reconnaissance.
At this time, Fu Yongfu expected that the enemy's infantry was about to start attacking, so he ordered the Seventh and Eighth Companies to be ready to meet the enemy.
In an instant, the enemies of the two regiments launched a fierce attack all the way to the position of the Seventh Company and all the way to the position of the Eighth Company.
200 meters, 100 meters, 50 meters... It was time, Fu Yongfu ordered: "Fight! "Machine guns, rifles, grenades opened fire at the same time. A fierce counterattack killed the enemy, wounded him, and retreated.
After about half an hour of touching, the enemy organized a second attack. Our army exerted the power of close combat, killing and wounding many enemies. Some of the enemy rushed to the front of our position, and the soldiers took bayonet guns and engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy.
After a bloody battle, the enemy was in a mess, and the rolling belt crawled back.
On this day, the enemy made 5 successive attacks, all of which were repelled by the volunteer soldiers, and the three battalions annihilated more than 700 enemy soldiers and captured 7 prisoners.
Fu Yongfu ordered everyone to rush to repair the fortifications and replenish ammunition overnight. The morale of the battalion was high, ready for an even more difficult blockade battle.
At 9 a.m. the next morning, the fog at the top of the hill had just cleared, and the enemy planes began to bombard indiscriminately over the position, followed by the roar of more than a dozen cannons. Billowing smoke rose from the position, the trees and weeds were all scorched, and the sand and stones were lifted up to a height of more than a foot.
After more than half an hour, the enemy infantry group began to charge.
Fu Yongfu ordered the soldiers to hide in the fortifications when the enemy was bombarding, and when the enemy infantry rushed to the front about 50 meters, they would exert the power of our infantry weapons to kill and injure the enemy in large numbers, and the enemy rushed to the front of the position and fought with them with bayonets to prevent the enemy from advancing.
On this day, the enemy launched 6 attacks from morning to evening, all of which were beaten down by three battalions of fighters, in addition to killing and wounding more than 100 enemy soldiers, they also captured more than 20 American prisoners alive while fighting bayonets.
Yang Shumei, the regimental commander, called: "Fu Yongfu, how's it going?" Can it be kept? Do you want to send troops to support? ”
Fu Yongfu replied firmly: "Please rest assured that the regiment commander can hold the position." ”
Division Commander Zheng Sansheng called and asked, "Xiao Fu, how's it going?" ”
"Division Commander, we have no problem, the company's reserve team has not yet been raised!" Fu Yongfu replied equally firmly.
Zheng Sansheng finally told Fu Yongfu to grit his teeth and hold out for another day and night.
At night, the fighting stopped. Fu Yongfu organized the companies to reinforce the fortifications, count the number of people, and replenish ammunition. On this day, the Seventh and Eighth Companies each suffered more than 30 casualties.
On the third day, the fighting became more intense and more brutal, with dozens of enemy planes bombing in turn, dozens of artillery shells bombarding more fiercely, thousands of shells pouring down on the positions, and the three battalions suffered heavy casualties.
At this time, it was already more than two o'clock in the afternoon, and Yang Shumei called from the regimental command post: "Fu Yongfu, how is the situation?" Do you want to send a reserve team to support? ”
Fu Yongfu wiped the dust from his face and said firmly, "No problem, I Fu Yongfu are in the position." ”
Then Zheng Sansheng asked anxiously on the phone: "Xiao Fu, can you stand up?" ”
"No problem. There are now 270 more men in the battalion who can fight. If it is not possible, I will take the reserve platoon and the battalion headquarters personnel up to fight and fight, to ensure that the people are in the position, and never let the enemy advance one step. ”
In the three-day blockade battle, Fu Yongfu commanded the whole battalion to repulse 17 attacks of a mechanized infantry division of the US army, killing and wounding more than 2,000 enemy people, capturing more than 70 prisoners alive, and successfully completing the task of blocking. At dusk, an order came from the regimental headquarters: "The three battalions have successfully completed the task of blocking the attack, and are ready to hand over the position to the brother troops to take over." ”
Unfortunately, during the handover of positions, Fu Yongfu was briefing the brother troops on the enemy's situation, when he was suddenly hit in the left buttock by an artillery shell from the enemy, and the blood was immediately directed, and he was sent to the division headquarters for emergency treatment.
Division commander Zheng Sansheng ran to see Fu Yongfu at the first time, grabbed his hand tightly, and said: "In this blockade battle, you led the whole battalion to fight with the US army for three days, and actually annihilated more than 2,000 enemies. The division headquarters is ready to give you credit..."
Fortunately, Fu Yongfu was relieved of his life after treatment and returned to China a few days later to continue treatment.
During his hospitalization, Fu Yongfu received a notification from the military department that in recognition of his merits in the Lianchuan Blockade Battle, the Volunteer Army Headquarters awarded him the title of "Outstanding Commander of The Resourceful Young" and recorded him with first-class merit, and his friends also awarded him the National Flag Medal of the Third Class.
