Recently, research company IDC released an overview of the AR/VR headset market in 2021. According to the company, total shipments of AR/VR headsets will reach about 9.7 million units in 2021, which is expected to nearly triple over the next four years.
The data is the latest data as of the third quarter of 2021, according to IDC data, AR/VR headset shipments in 2021 increased significantly by 348.4% year-on-year, integrated VR headsets accounted for 89.8% of shipments, and Meta devices had the highest market share of 75%.
IDC expects full-year shipments of 9.36 million VR headsets and 330,000 AR headsets in 2021, and it also predicts that this number will grow to a total of 32.8 million units by 2025, a compound annual growth rate of 45.9%.
VR headsets are likely to drive shipment growth, but according to IDC, the proportion of AR headsets will soar since 2023, and it is expected to account for a third of all headset shipments by 2025.
