As the final exhibition of the "Peak Road" series launched by China Art News, the "Peak Road" exhibition in Guangzhou takes "freehand" as the research aspect, presenting the different generational characteristics of artists born from the 1930s to the 1970s in terms of "freehand" in Chinese painting. Through more than 220 works by a total of 75 artists, the exploration and experiment of "brush and ink" and "freehand" in Chinese painting are presented as a whole.

"However, the so-called 'freehand' of Chinese painting today points to the concept opposite of the 'realism' of Western painting, that is, all non-realistic paintings may be regarded as freehand." Shang Hui said, "This makes some contemporary painters only understand the 'freehandness' of Chinese painting as a kind of pan-calligraphic pen feature, but the traditional literati are actually against this sloppy." ”

In Shang Hui's view, the reason why the exhibition talks about the topic of "freehand" is because the current Chinese painting needs us to explore what China's "freehand" is through the question, so that we can absorb the nutrients of foreign art while also inheriting and carrying forward the traditions of the Chinese nation.

According to the organizers, "Peak Road" is an important exhibition brand activity launched by China Art News, the purpose of which is to discuss the problems existing in the development of Chinese painting and how to climb the "peak" in view of the current situation of "plateau" and lack of "peak" in art creation. At the same time, the dissolution of "pen and ink" into "freehand" to carry out a broader integration of the two is also the purpose and significance of this exhibition.
