Tesla is leading the way in the study of IMD Vehicles' Future Readiness Indicators

The world is constantly changing, and with constant change, the automotive industry is also changing, and it must adapt and meet the current and future needs of human beings. As a result, cars equipped with internal combustion engines (ICE) are being replaced by electric vehicles (EVs), new types of electric vehicles have a wealth of new technologies, software, infotainment and autonomous driving are highly regarded for their related functions, while the value of traditional mechanical engineering techniques is gradually being lost, and a study by IMD (International School of Management Development) is trying to find out which automaker is best prepared for the future.

According to the study, Tesla is a 100% future-oriented car manufacturer, in second place is Toyota, with a score of 100, it scored 77.9 points, BMW ranked third with 75.5 points, Ford also scored 73.5 points, Audi almost ranked second from the bottom of the list with 21.6 points, which shows that the brand's integration of new features lags significantly, although Renault's situation is even worse, only 1 point. IDM predicts that the lack of relevance of the technology is likely to lead to Renault's complete stunt in the future.

To determine this rating, IMD measured seven factors:

1. Financial Performance – If your current business has gone out of business, you will not be able to invest in the future.

2. Business diversity in terms of geographical distribution.

3. Diversity of employees and diversity of leadership – Diversity of thought is essential for reinvention.

4. R&D intensity - reinvention requires funds and resources.

5. Early results of these companies' innovative efforts.

6. Ability to generate cash and their debt situation.

7. Stock market performance as an indicator of investor confidence.

IMD pointed out that the performance of electric vehicles has surpassed most traditional fuel vehicles, and the electrical and electronic architecture has been combined with the development of automobile electrification, which means that traditional car manufacturers can only succeed if they rethink the way cars are manufactured. IMD also praised Tesla: "Tesla has four parts of the upgrade application integration is quite mature: including autopilot; central information display; dashboard; and powertrain and energy storage, which are preferentially used in digital and electric technologies, allow wireless software updates, and support remote access and autonomous driving, the design is also optimized for data collection and algorithm testing, making software deployment easier."

Tesla is working on enabling interaction with transportation infrastructure and making wireless communication with other vehicles possible, traditional automakers have to explore new spaces to learn, developing a software system to control all infotainment systems can't happen overnight; it needs to keep learning to optimize, and once they've learned enough, they can start to use their newly acquired capabilities and combine them with their existing capabilities to achieve breakthroughs (this is also described in detail on the X axis in the chart above).
