The 96-year-old Taiwan veteran, childless, wanted to return to his roots in his old age and asked his nephew: Do you still support me when I don't have money

In 1949, the Kuomintang-Communist civil war was nearing its end, Chiang Kai-shek's Kuomintang was gradually defeated, and finally could only retreat to a small island in Taiwan, hoping to take advantage of this to recuperate and make a comeback, but did not expect that the growing strength of the Communist Party made him have no chance in his lifetime, and at the same time that he retreated to Taiwan, many Kuomintang soldiers were forced to leave their hometowns, leave their relatives, and even more people who died in other places.

Deng Xuegui was one of these soldiers. Born into a rural family in Changning, Hunan Province, Deng Xuegui is the eldest son in the family, with a younger brother and two younger sisters.

When he was a child, his family was difficult, he did not read, he began to do all kinds of farm work from a young age, helping his parents take care of his younger siblings, and later when he was older, he began to work outside, earning some wages to subsidize family expenses, but living in such war years, the wind and rain drifted.

One day in 1948, once in a while he saw the Kuomintang recruiting soldiers on the side of the road, and he felt that he could get paid to be a soldier, even if it was not much, at least a stable income, so he became a Kuomintang soldier.

But the good times were short-lived, and the Kuomintang at that time was already at the end of the crossbow. In the battle between the Kuomintang and the Communists, the people had to retreat to Taiwan, and Deng Xuegui, like other soldiers, did not want to leave the mainland, but had to leave.

Deng Xuegui, who came to Taiwan, in this strange land, like most of the soldiers around him, had no foundation, no money, and even lived with many soldiers, and that room had only a small place to sleep for him.

He didn't have a penny on him, not even if he wanted to buy a daily necessities, and every late at night, he looked at the moon outside the window, missed his family on the other side of the coast, wondered if they were thinking about him the same, thinking that he could go back.

When I first started living in Taiwan, I was restricted in every way. Different living cultures, water and soil are not suitable.

Deng Xuegui spent days and nights in Taiwan thinking about his relatives on the mainland and his elderly parents. I thought that I would be able to return to the mainland in a few years, but I did not expect that this walk would be 40 years, and I knew that in 1988, cross-strait relations were loosened somewhat.

At this time, Deng Xuegui went around to trust the relationship and tried his best to contact his relatives, and Deng Xuegui finally contacted his brother at the end of the year.

Originally thought that joining the army could defend the country, but unexpectedly, he was trapped in a remote place, and he could not return to his home, and could only look in the direction of his home and miss it.

When he finally contacted his brother, Deng Xuegui was full of tears, his voice was choked up and he couldn't help himself, when he asked about his elderly parents, his brother hesitated for a while, only saying that his parents were healthy. In fact, Deng Xuegui's mother died in 1987.

But afraid that his brother was far away in Taiwan, he chose to hide it, and when his mother was alive, he waited for his eldest son to return every day at the mouth of the village, day after day, year after year. Many people said that Deng Xuegui may have died and would come back early, but his mother did not believe it, so she waited for nearly 40 years, and did not wait for her eldest son until she died.

Deng Xuegui used all means to contact the mainland, wanting to get a little information about his family. Later, when it was finally time to peacefully liberate Taiwan, Deng Xuegui finally embarked on the long-lost road home.

The moment he stepped on the mainland, he was shocked to see the changes in the mainland over the years, and the changes in the mainland in just a few decades were so great that it was simply dizzying. Over the years, I finally knew the reason why the Kuomintang had been unable to fight back, and if I could live in such a country, there would be no war like this.

It may be that Chinese have a plot of close homesickness, every time he approaches his home, the more nervous he is, afraid that his family does not know him, and the moment he recognizes his family, both sides are excited and unable to speak.

Later, I learned that my parents had died for many years, and I was sad in my heart, if I could come back to visit me over the years or never went to Taiwan, I might also be able to send my parents to the end of my life, and later Deng Xuegui would often come back to visit my brother's family.

The money he earned in Taiwan was basically donated to the construction of the village, and he would also bring a lot of things to his brother's family, Deng Xuegui was unfortunate, he did not marry and have children in his life, he could not send his parents to the end of his life, and he could not return home after many years of leaving home.

He lived a very frugal life in Taiwan but he was very willing to give up his family, and when he was still healthy, he would often go home to visit, and then the number of times he went home when he got older became less and less, and then at the age of 96, he finally couldn't contain his desire to return home.

He called his nephew who was far away in Hunan and said, "I have no money, are you still willing to raise me?" ”

Deng Xuegui's nephew immediately agreed as soon as he heard this, Deng You'ai has always wanted Uncle Da to go home, but Uncle Da has not agreed, and now Uncle Da's willingness to relax and return home is of course the best.

Deng Xuegui finally returned home completely after 70 years, and there were still many such people in that era, who could not return home because of the war, and we must cherish our current life.
