On the occasion of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger, the "Fuhu Yingxiang - Yangliu Qing Woodblock Prints Exhibition" opened on January 12 at the Zizhuyuan Palace and will last until March 27 this year.

New Year paintings are a symbol of the New Year. As the saying goes, if you don't paste a New Year's painting, you don't count as a New Year's Day. The New Year paintings are not only decorations for festivals, but also have profound humanistic and artistic values, pinning on the spiritual aspirations of the Chinese people to pursue a better life. The most representative woodblock print in the north is the Yangliu Youth Painting in Tianjin. "In general, folk New Year paintings use color separations, and in addition to the sleeves, Yangliu Youth Paintings have added hand-painting techniques, especially in the face and hands of key parts of the characters, which is called 'open hand face'. This process directly affects the prosperous area of China's Silk Road in Xinjiang and even Central Asia. Curator Zheng Zuoliang said in the foreword to the exhibition.
This exhibition selects more than 100 Yangliu Youth Paintings, comprehensively displaying the fine works of past Chinese New Year paintings to the public, and the dazzling traditional Yangliu Youth Paintings are engraved on the red and tongtong exhibition board, awakening the audience's New Year's taste memory, and also conveying the festive and auspicious good wishes to every audience who stops to watch. At the same time, through this annual painting exhibition, we will vigorously promote intangible cultural heritage, further strengthen the public's understanding and protection of Yangliu Qingmu prints, and enrich the people's holiday life.
Zizhuyuan Palace Zixiao Hall (Hall 1) is mainly an important collection and fine display of Yangliu Qing woodblock prints, as well as the display of exquisite New Year painting products, such as glass, porcelain, albums, etc.; Jing Yi Zhai (Hall 2), in a rich form of pictures, introduces the new year paintings from all over the country and the detailed production process and tools of Yang Liu youth paintings, helping the audience to better understand the different styles of New Year paintings in different regions, and play a positive role in inheriting traditional Chinese folk culture; Qijun Zhai (Hall 3), showing festive customs, Twenty-four filial pieties and other themes of Yangliu Qing wood engravings, as well as Yangliu Youth Painting inheritors interview video; Tianxiang Zhai (Hall 4), showing the Yangliu Qing wood prints with the theme of secular life.
The whole exhibition is divided into categories to display the fine works of New Year paintings, including historical stories, myths and legends, secular life, scenic spots, flowers, birds, fish and insects, female dolls, opera stories, etc., with a wide range of themes and rich content. It can be seen from this that Yangliu Qingmu prints are known for reflecting historical stories, current affairs and customs, and real life. She not only inherits the historical tradition, but also follows the spirit of the times, which is popular with the broad masses of the people.
