The mystery of the old shadow of the Jade Buddha in Chengdu

The "Shiying Bashu Ancient Buildings Old Shadow Sorting Plan" is intended to sort out the old shadows of the ancient buildings in the Bashu area in the late Qing Dynasty, and at present, the plan has sorted out more than 2,600 old shadows of the ancient buildings in Bashu. The writing of this article is to be able to better sort out and confirm the old shadows, and the stage work is carried out.

Today, let's talk about the old shadows of the two jade Buddhas in Chengdu. However, at the beginning, it must be noted that this article is only a short article that throws bricks and jade, because I lack the necessary materials and the scope of reading about the summary of the Jade Buddhas in Chengdu during the Republic of China period and the current situation of these jade Buddhas.

First of all, the first jade Buddha is the Jade Buddha of Zhaojue Temple. As far as the literature is concerned, according to the article "Miscellaneous Records of Youshu" created by cultural relics collector and archaeologist Zhang Xilu in 1934: Zhaojue Temple, Chengdu Ancient Temple... A certain temple... Inside is a statue of the Jade Buddha, stored in a glass box, quite exquisite, and the cover comes from the Tianzhu Kingdom. As for the old shadows of cultural relics, we can basically be sure that the following picture is the Jade Buddha of Zhaojue Temple, and the reason for judging is extremely simple, that is, the Buddha seat is engraved with the words "Zhaojue Ancient Temple".

But here is a more troublesome problem, that is, the following four pictures, from different Republic of China periodicals, from left to right, the original annotations of the journals are: Wenshu Yuan, Wenshu Yuan, Caotang, Wenshu Yuan. However, after comparison, it is not difficult to find that the first to third pictures should be the same jade Buddha, and the fourth jade Buddha is another.

At present, I personally think that perhaps the republic of China periodicals have wrong annotations (republic of China periodicals often have errors), the first three jade Buddhas should be the jade Buddhas of Zhaojue Temple, but the base has been changed, and the "glass box" mentioned in the "Youshu Miscellaneous Records" has been added. However, it is not possible to rule out the possibility that Manjushri Monastery has a highly similar jade Buddha. As for the grass hall, it should be a real misnote.

As for the fourth figure, it is obviously the same Buddha statue as the one below, but i don't know if it is in Manjushri Monastery or not. So far, I have not seen contemporary photographs of the Buddha.
