Today I will start to talk about the idiom related to the four words "wind and snow moon".

"Wind flower snow moon" is also an idiom, the original meaning refers to the natural beauty of the four times of the year: spring has a hundred flowers and autumn has a moon, summer has a cool breeze and winter has snow. Later, it was often used to refer to poems with flowery words and empty content, and could also be used to describe the life of drunken dreams and death, and spending days and drinking.

Let's start with an idiom with "wind".

The sound of the wind crane, the sound of the crane calling. The sound of the wind and the sound of cranes, what does this mean?

Let's listen to the story first.

tale

The year 383 AD was a famous year, when there was a famous battle in history in which less won more, and it was the famous Battle of Shuishui. It is said that less wins more, so how much is "less"? How much is "too much"? It is almost 80,000 to 800,000, although 80,000 are elite soldiers and 800,000 are miscellaneous soldiers, but the ratio of one to ten is also very different, and there is almost no chance of victory in terms of numbers.

At that time, during the Sixteen Kingdoms period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, after the Former Qin Emperor Jian jian unified the north, he had been planning to attack the Eastern Jin Dynasty from the south. Although the national strength of the Eastern Jin Dynasty was not as good as that of Former Qin, it occupied the Yangtze River and was not easy to attack. Soon after the unification of Former Qin, it was actually not a good time to provoke a war, but Jian Jian had already made up his mind, gathered 800,000 troops mobilized from all over the place, and before the people arrived, they hurried south and went straight to the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

Of course, the Eastern Jin Dynasty did not want to fight, but the enemy had to fight when it came to the door. The imperial court sent Xie Shi as a general, and Xie Xuan as the vanguard, leading 80,000 well-trained elite soldiers north to meet the battle.

Jian Jian thought that he had a million troops in his hands, and since he had the odds of victory, it would not be a problem to deal with the Jin army. He gathered his forces on the banks of the Shuishui River in the east of Shouyang, waiting for all the follow-up troops to arrive before launching a general attack on the Jin army.

The Jin army was outnumbered in numbers, and if it could not win more with less, it would undoubtedly be defeated, so Xie Xuan decided to take the initiative to attack before the Qin army had not yet fully gathered, and after several consecutive victorious battles, the two sides confronted each other and entered a state of stalemate.

Xie Xuan had carefully studied Jian Jian's personality traits and came up with a plan. He sent an emissary across the river to the Qin camp to consult with the Qin army's forwards: "Now that the two sides are facing each other, the battle is protracted, and it is impossible to make a quick decision. Wouldn't it be better for your army to retreat a little, let our army cross the muddy waters, and decide the victory or defeat between the two sides? When the generals of the Qin army heard this proposal, they all opposed it, believing that they must hold on to the water and not let the Jin army cross the river, as long as all the follow-up troops arrived, they could completely defeat the Jin army. Jian Jian did not think so, he was eager to win, thinking that he could plan for the plan, his own army only needed to retreat slightly, and when half of the Jin army was still in the river and did not land, he would be able to completely annihilate the Jin army with elite cavalry.

The Qin army was the final say, so the Qin army began to retreat, but what he did not take into account was that the Qin army was a temporary team pieced together from all over the place, and it did not have unified command and combat cooperation experience, coupled with the backwardness of ancient information transmission, the front army began to retreat, the people behind did not know what happened, as soon as they received the order to retreat, they thought that the front had suffered a defeat, and suddenly there was chaos, and Qi Qi fled to the rear.

As soon as Xie Xuan saw the Qin army retreating, he immediately ordered the Jin army to quickly cross the river and go ashore to kill the enemy.

During the retreat of the Qin army, many people even discarded weapons and armor, and the scene was a mess, and countless soldiers who trampled on each other and died. Those soldiers who were lucky enough to escape the pursuit of the Jin army, as long as they heard the whistling wind and the sound of cranes along the way, they all thought that the Jin army's team was chasing and killing them again, and immediately ran away for their lives regardless of day and night.

In this way, the Jin army led by Xie Xuan won a complete victory and won a major victory in the "Battle of Shuishui". After the defeat, Former Qin was defeated, and Jian Jian died two years later, and the north was divided into multiple regimes; the Eastern Jin Dynasty took advantage of the Northern Expedition to push the border line to the Yellow River, and there was no foreign invasion for decades.

It was so wonderful, how did Xie Xuan know that Jian Jian would definitely listen to him?

This is to capture the psychology of people, Xie Xuan knows that Jian Jian is a person who is eager to achieve success, throw in his favor, and lead him to the bait.

Later, people used the idiom "wind and crane" to describe the tense atmosphere during the war, and can also be used to describe self-alarm, as soon as the wind blows, the nerves are extremely nervous and panicked, the latter is somewhat similar to "the bird of fright, the shadow of the cup bow snake", but these two idioms do not have the meaning of the atmosphere of war.

Al reverie

Do you know what the Battle of Shuishui is?

The Battle of Shuishui is a famous example in Chinese history of winning more with few victories, and it took place during the Sixteen Kingdoms period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

In 383, the Former Qin Emperor Jian led an army to invade the south, and the Eastern Jin Dynasty chancellor Xie Anli took the lead in resisting, sending Xie Shi and Xie Xuan to lead an army to engage in the battle at Mishui (southeast of present-day Shou County, Anhui), and finally the Eastern Jin Dynasty defeated the Former Qin army with 80,000 troops (actually arrived) and won a complete victory.

Jian Jian fled back to the north alone, and the separation of the north and the south became from then on.
