Chen Qiao began to engage in dance creation in the 1950s, from "March 3" and "Bowl Dance" in the 1950s, "Grass Dance" in the 1960s, to "Happy Delivery of Grain", "Jiaoyuan Morning Song" and "Treading Wave Song" in the 1970s, "Touching snails" in the 1980s, and then to the Li dance drama "Dragon Zi Qing" in the 90s, etc. In the past half a century, Chen Qiao has launched many Li series of dances that can be called stage classics, pushing the Li style dance to the world.
Not long ago, Chen Qiao attended the Eleventh National Literary Congress. At the scene of the "Master Art Class" event, she recalled: "At the opening ceremony, General Secretary Xi's speech constantly emphasized the people-centered, and there was almost no place in the whole speech that did not mention 'people', which impressed me too deeply! Whether it is to be a person or to create, we literary and art workers must always take the people as the center. ”
The people are the mother of literature and art. The growth of literature and art is inseparable from the nourishment of the people, and the people have an inexhaustible source of abundance for all literature and art. From the lively scene of the traditional festival of the Li people, "March 3", she created "March 3"; in the process of screening grain and handing over public grain with the Li sisters, she created "Happy Delivery of Grain"; she created "Touching the Snail" when she saw the Li children stepping on the homemade clogs of the adults and bathing, touching the snails and playing by the river. Chen Qiao's creative experience vividly embodies the basic law of literary and artistic creation, and his creative achievements are inseparable from his practice of going deep into life and being close to the people.
Chen Qiao introduced that in that year, in order to create the dance "Grass Dance", she thought of the Yuanmen style, if you take a car to detour, it will take two days, and it will only take half a day to climb the mountain. Chen Qiao chose to cut a short path, but in the middle he had to cross the smelling ant mountain- Parrot Ridge. Chen Qiao did not feel fear by virtue of his previous experience of being bitten by ants on the mountain, but insisted on climbing the mountain; until he saw the dense and hair-thin mountain ants on the trees and stones, which were swinging in search of prey, and at the thought that they would drill into any part of the body when people were unaware, Chen Qiao knew that he was afraid. After running for two hours and finally reaching safety, Chen Qiao found that one of his trouser legs had long been stained with blood. She quickly untied her tightly tied pant legs, and a mountain ant that was swollen from sucking blood immediately fell. Chen Qiao recalled that at that time, a hole was bitten out of the calf, and the blood had been flowing. "This wound itched on rainy days in the years that followed, and rotted when it was scratched." Because of this experience, after "Grass Dance" won the gold medal of the World Youth Festival Dance Competition, Chen Qiao called this medal "gold medal with blood".

When with the Li masses, "eating, living and working together is the most basic." In his dealings with the Li masses, Chen Qiao accumulated a lot of experience. She believes that the first thing to do is to respect them from the bottom of our hearts and integrate into their daily lives. To this end, Chen Qiao learned to speak And sing Li songs, and went into the homes of the masses to listen to them talk about the rich oral literature of the Li people... The Li people she came into contact with also genuinely loved her, took her over the Centipede Mountain, and twice saved her during flash floods... These experiences have led her to forge a deep friendship with the Li people.
The rich and simple life of the Li ethnic group has provided a steady stream of inspiration and motivation for Chen Qiao's artistic creation, helped her create many Li dances that are popular with the masses, and brought the Li dances to the international stage. The outside world often calls Chen Qiao the "mother of Li dance", Chen Qiao said: "The Li people are the real 'mother of Li dance', I am just doing the work of inheritance, innovation and development of Li dance." ”
Firm cultural self-confidence Blow the clarion call of the times
To win a place for Chinese national dance in the world is the goal that Chen Qiao has been striving for. After leaving Hainan, Chen Qiao found that Guangdong "has 'Lingnan music' and 'Lingnan painting school', but there is no 'Lingnan dance'". Therefore, Chen Qiao, who was the chairman of the Guangdong Dancers Association at the time, put forward the concept and goal of "Lingnan Dance", encouraging dancers in Guangdong to consciously unify Lingnan folk dance, regional culture and the spirit of the times, and create dance works that are closer to the times, full of characteristics and popular with the people. Since its inception in 2005, the "Lingnan Dance Competition" has become an industry symbol and a cultural brand in the Guangdong dance industry.
"Guangdong dancers have taken the first step in Lingnan dance, and they must continue to work hard to walk out of a broad avenue." I believe that with the joint efforts of everyone, Lingnan dance will become more and more mature and bloom with the brilliant brilliance it deserves. Chen Qiao said.
Years of artistic practice have also made Chen Qiao deeply feel: "We can't despise ourselves, don't feel that folk things are 'rustic in the soil'." The characteristic culture of our nation has been loved by the broad masses of the people before it has been passed down to this day, and literary and art workers need to make good use of these traditional resources. ”
