Dancer Chen Qiao: Literary and art creators should make good use of national characteristic culture

On January 9th, at the "Master Art Class" activity of Guangzhou Literary and Art Citizen Space jointly sponsored by Guangzhou Municipal Federation of Literature and Art, Southern Press 289 Art and Guangzhou Literary and Art Volunteer Association, Chen Qiao, former vice chairman of the China Dancers Association and honorary chairman of the Guangdong Dancers Association, shared his artistic career and artistic views with the theme of "adhering to the people's position and living up to the trust of the times", combined with the experience of participating in the 11th National Literary Congress.

"The Li people are the 'mother of Li dance'"

Chen Qiao began to engage in dance creation in the 1950s, from the "March 3rd" and "Bowl Dance" in the 1950s, the "Grass Dance" in the 60s, to the "Happy Delivery of Grain", "Jiaoyuan Morning Song" and "Treading Wave Song" in the 70s, the "Touching the Snail" in the 80s, and then to the Li dance drama "Dragon Zi Qing" in the 90s, etc. In the past half century, Chen Qiao has launched many Li series of dances that can be called stage classics, becoming the first person to introduce The Li style dance to the world.

Dancer Chen Qiao: Literary and art creators should make good use of national characteristic culture

Not long ago, Chen Qiao attended the Eleventh National Literary Congress. At the scene of the "Master Art Class" activity, she said that whether it is a person or a creation, we literary and art workers must always take the people as the center.

The people are the mother of literature and art. From the lively scene of the li traditional festival "March 3", she created "March 3"; in the process of screening grain and handing over public grain with the Li sisters, she created "Happy Delivery of Grain"; Seeing the scene of Li children stepping on the homemade clogs of adults and going to the river to bathe, touch snails, and play, she created "Touching Snails"... Chen Qiao's creative experience vividly embodies the basic law of literary and artistic creation, and his creative achievements are inseparable from his practice of going deep into life and being close to the people.

Chen Qiao introduced that in that year, in order to create the dance "Grass Dance", she thought of the Yuanmen style, if you take a car to detour, it will take two days, and it will only take half a day to climb the mountain. Chen Qiao chose to cut a short path, but in the middle he had to cross the smelling ant mountain, the Parrot Ridge. Chen Qiao, with his previous experience of being bitten by ants on the mountain, did not feel fear, but insisted on climbing the mountain. Chen Qiao recalled that at that time, a hole was bitten out of the calf by a mountain ant, and the blood had been flowing. "This wound itched on rainy days in the years that followed, and rotted when it was scratched." Because of this experience, after "Kusanagi Dance" won the gold medal of the World Youth Festival Dance Competition, Chen Qiao called this medal "gold medal with blood".

The rich and simple life of the Li ethnic group has provided a steady stream of inspiration and motivation for Chen Qiao's artistic creation, helped her create many Li dances that are popular with the masses, and brought the Li dances to the international stage. The outside world often calls Chen Qiao the "mother of Li dance", Chen Qiao said: "The Li people are the real 'mother of Li dance', I am just doing the work of inheritance, innovation and development of Li dance." ”

Firm cultural self-confidence Blow the clarion call of the times

To win a place for Chinese national dance in the world is the goal that Chen Qiao has been striving for. After leaving Hainan, Chen Qiao found that Guangdong "has 'Lingnan music' and 'Lingnan painting school', but there is no 'Lingnan dance'. Therefore, Chen Qiao, who was the chairman of the Guangdong Dancers Association at the time, put forward the concept and goal of "Lingnan Dance", encouraging dancers in Guangdong to consciously unify Lingnan folk dance, regional culture and the spirit of the times, and create dance works that are closer to the times, full of characteristics and popular with the people. Since its inception in 2005, the "Lingnan Dance Competition" has become an industry symbol and a cultural brand in the Guangdong dance industry.

Years of artistic practice have made Chen Qiao deeply feel: "We can't despise ourselves, don't feel that folk things are 'rustic in the soil'. The characteristic culture of our nation has been loved by the broad masses of the people before it has been passed down to this day, and literary and art workers need to make good use of these traditional resources. ”

As an artist of the older generation, Chen Qiao expressed his expectations for literary and art workers: "In the new journey toward the second centenary goal, our literary and art workers should strengthen cultural self-confidence, sound the clarion call of the times, and fully express the joys and sorrows of the people and the development and changes of the times in our works." ”
