When the Japanese army attacked Nankou, Tang Enbo's central army was defeated, Chen Changjie led the 73rd Division to rush to the aid, and the Japanese Kou fought for positions 23 times before finally taking it, and then fell into a heavy siege because of the friendly army's cowardice, and it was Chen Changjie's calm command that allowed the army to finally break through the siege.

After the Battle of Nankou, Chen Changjie was promoted to the rank of commander of the 11th Reserve Army, with the rank of lieutenant general. In 1937, the 9th Army, the main division of the Japanese Kou, the Banyuan Division, rushed straight to the strategic flat-shaped Guan in Shanxi, and Yan Xishan ordered Chen Changjie to come to his aid.

The 11th Army had two divisions under its command, the equipment was backward, and the combat strength of the soldiers was far inferior to that of the Japanese army, but Chen Changjie took advantage of the advantages in the terrain and the fearless spirit of the soldiers who did not retreat, and fought with the Japanese army for 12 days on the position, forcing Itagaki Seishiro to have to retreat temporarily.

Seishiro Itagaki

After this victory, the Reserve 11th Army was officially reorganized into the 61st Army, and Chen Changjie was appointed as the commander-in-chief of the former enemy, commanding all the troops on the front line. Beginning on October 2, the Chinese troops in the front, under the command of Chen Changjie, launched an attack on the enemy army, and for more than twenty days, the Japanese Kou were unable to advance one step, and the Eighth Route Army also arrived in time to launch an attack from the rear of the Japanese army, so that Itagaki Seishiro was almost annihilated.

Of course, the Itagaki Division eventually broke through successfully, but Chen Changjie became a thorn in the eye of the Japanese Kou from then on. Since then, Chen Changjie has won many victories in succession, and has been called General Changsheng, and the name Changjie has finally lived up to its name. Later, Chen Changjie was promoted to commander-in-chief of the Sixth Army, and there were not many who could compare with him in the Jin army.

Chen Changjie also trusted Fu Zuoyi, the elder brother, and after he arrived in Tianjin, he began to build fortifications. However, soon the Northeast Army surrounded Tianjin, the People's Liberation Army asked him to revolt, he asked Fu Zuoyi, Fu Zuoyi asked him to stick to the end, and as a result, Chen Changjie did not revolt and became a prisoner of war. Fu Zuoyi later revolted in Beiping.

Chen Changjie repeatedly said in front of many people in the prisoner of war camp that Fu Zuoyi was unkind and unjust, and Fu Zuoyi also felt deeply guilty, and repeatedly asked for a pardon for Chen Changjie, plus Chen Changjie was 57 years old when he was captured, so the first batch was pardoned.

After coming out, Chen Changjie went to Shanghai to serve as a secretariat commissioner, during which time he recalled his war history and wrote some books.
