Carbon dioxide synthetic starch, research on the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic... On January 10, the Life Science Society Consortium of the China Association for Science and Technology announced the "Top Ten Progresses in Chinese Life Sciences" in 2021, and a number of achievements with originality and great social significance stood out.
This year's selected results include 8 knowledge innovation categories and 2 technological innovation project achievements. Among them, the research of "synthetic synthesis from carbon dioxide to starch" has achieved the artificial total synthesis of carbon dioxide to starch for the first time in the world, which will bring a transformative impact on the next generation of biological manufacturing and agricultural production; the research of "mechanism of natural immunity and antiviral drugs of the new coronavirus escape host" and "cross-species identification and molecular mechanism of coronavirus" is of great significance to the complex anti-epidemic situation in the international community today; "interference single molecule positioning microscopy" lays the foundation for opening up new interdisciplinary research fields.
Other selected results include "Genetic Innovation Mechanism of Vertebrate Evolution from Aquatic to Terrestrial Evolution", "Assembly Mechanism of Transcription Initiation Supercomplex", "New Model of Efficient and Low Toxicity Treatment to Improve the Efficacy of Middle and Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma", "Rapid De Novo Domestication of Heterologous Tetraploid Wild Rice", "Unveiling the Mystery of Long-distance Migration of Birds", "Whole Brain Single Neuron Diversity Research and Informatics Big Data Platform".
Since 2015, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology Life Science Society Consortium has carried out the annual "Top Ten Progress in Chinese Life Sciences" selection work, organized the recommendation of member societies, peer experts, and the presidium of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology Life Science Society Consortium reviewed and determined the selected results.
