Before and after the founding of the Communist Party of China, Guangzhou became an important town for the spread of Marxism, laying an important position for Guangzhou in the history of the development of modern Chinese politics and culture. In April 1921, "New Youth" was moved from Shanghai to Guangzhou, and its company was located at No. 26-28 Changxing Street in Guangzhou. On the day of the relocation, the sixth volume of the eighth volume of "New Youth" was published in Guangzhou to publicize the theory of revolution.

After the founding of the Communist Party of China in July 1921, New Youth became an organ publication of the Party Central Committee and ceased publication in July 1922. On June 15, 1923, the Theoretical Journal of the Communist Party of China, the Quarterly New Youth, was founded in Guangzhou, with the inaugural title of "Comintern", edited by Qu Qiubai, and the cover and title were personally designed and inscribed by Qu Qiubai.

2. Kang Youwei's "Xingshu Tianda Le Shi Ba Yan Lian" (provided by Guangzhou Art Museum)

Kang Youwei's contribution to the art of calligraphy is no less than his work on the political stage. He is another great scholar after Ruan Yuan and Bao Shichen. The work is written in su ink, and the starting pen is a thick ink wet pen, so saturated that it forms a "hairy" circle on rice paper, and the thick ink part seems to have thickness.

A distinctive feature of Kang Youwei's calligraphy is "turning squares into circles", after he visited the monuments and studied the Northern Wei Moya stone carving "Stone Gate Inscription", his penmanship pursued momentum, informality, physical posture, wide and broad stretch, but it was more round pens, which was a kind of reform of weibei square pens.

3. Gao Jian's father's Chinese painting "The Flames of the Eastern Battlefield" (courtesy of Guangzhou Art Museum)

The Chinese painting "The Flames of the Eastern Battlefield" depicts the scene of the Zhabei Oriental Library in Shanghai, which was bombed by the Japanese army in the "1.28" incident in 1932, and is now in the collection of the Guangzhou Museum of Art.

From the picture, the destroyed Oriental Library is only a ruin, the afterburn of the war has not been extinguished, and the flames are soaring, in the foreground in addition to the rubble and telephone poles, the Western-style porch of the Oriental Library is faintly recognizable, and the rear scene is standing with the ruins of the broken wall after the explosion.

The work is similar to Gao Jianfu's other masterpiece", "Burning Afang Palace", in terms of composition, painting method and emotional rendering. Both works are direct depictions of the ruins of war, and the compositions are diagonally unfolded, leaving blank spaces in the middle to establish a sequence of time and space.

4. Li Tiefu's oil painting "Unfinished Old Man Portrait" (courtesy of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts)

The centennial exhibition | "Guangzhou Literature and Art" are brilliant, and the top ten exhibits are the most eye-catching

Among all of Li Tiefu's oil paintings, "Unfinished Old Man Portrait" is a rather special one. Not only is the work in an unfinished state, but the strong technical language of the work is also different from other works.

The outstanding feature of the picture is the use of brushstrokes. The painter, like a sculptor, quickly creates an image in order to grasp the strong feeling of the body. The brushstrokes that remain in the painting resemble both traces of mud adhering to the structure and like slashing with a knife and axe, and the figure in the painting resembles an unfinished sculpture.

Another feature is the use of color. The color of the light source and the environment, and the color tendency of different parts of the head are emphasized, but the transition and tendency of color are properly unified in the tone rhythm of the picture. The use of extremely general brushstrokes to express the accurate understanding of the form and the expression method of "the unity of form and color" reflects the aesthetic pursuit of Li Tiefu's eclectic style.

5. Late Qing Dynasty stereoscopic photo viewer (provided by Mr. Gongyuan)

Stereoscopic photographs were produced in the 1850s and became popular in European and American societies until the 1930s. Since television was only born in 1925, stereoscopic photographs and viewers for viewing stereoscopic photographs are known as "19th century television".

Stereoscopic photographs are dual-image photographs taken with dual-lens cameras, that is, usually on a frame of 17.8cm× 8 .8cm in length, showing two photos on the left and right, and the two photos will be slightly different due to the difference in lens angle of view. The two eyes of the person look at the stereoscopic photo through the lens of the viewer, and the two photos on the left and right of the picture can form an image with a three-dimensional stereoscopic effect.

Visitors can view the shamian scene of Guangzhou in the late Qing Dynasty (1900) through the film viewer at the exhibition site.

6. Pan He's "Hard Times" (courtesy of Pan He Art Museum of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts)

The centennial exhibition | "Guangzhou Literature and Art" are brilliant, and the top ten exhibits are the most eye-catching

The sculpture "Hard Years" was created in 1956 by the famous sculptor Pan He. The work originates from a story told by General Feng Baiju: At the most difficult time of the struggle of the Hainan guerrillas, there was a veteran soldier, Wang Yexi, who was one of the leaders of the special committee at that time, who always carried a bamboo pipe, and when the battle was most tense, he refused to lose it, and still sang Hainan folk songs happily.

This old soldier is the old man who plays the flute in the sculpture "Hard Times". Through the shape of the veteran soldier playing the flute and the little soldier snuggling up next to him to listen, the work successfully reflects the revolutionary optimism spirit of the war years and the belief in the victory of the revolution.

In the history of new Chinese art, "Hard Times" is a very important work, which has become one of the works that must be included in various primary and secondary school art appreciation textbooks and centuries-old art.

7. Guan Shanyue's Chinese painting "Green Great Wall" (courtesy of Guangdong Museum of Art)

The centennial exhibition | "Guangzhou Literature and Art" are brilliant, and the top ten exhibits are the most eye-catching

Guan Shanyue's Chinese painting "Green Great Wall" is a representative work of landscape painting innovation, which not only expresses the new content, but also updates the pen and ink, which is quite influential in the early 1970s.

The painting is based on the coastal shelterbelt belt of China's first beach (Dianbai, Guangdong). The rows of protective forest in the painting are being attacked by strong winds, like a green wall, protecting farmland and preventing sand and soil erosion.

The repetitive arrangement of the woods in the painting is easy to be monotonous and tedious, and the painter seeks curiosity in peace, tries to avoid similarities, strengthens the performance of the background, and treats the branches and leaves differently, making the picture wide and far-reaching.

In June 1979, the famous sculpture "The Warrior" created by the sculptor Tang Daxi (who later served as the director of the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy) was born.
