However, with the influx of large numbers of spectators, the high-speed tunnel also experienced congestion.
In fact, the tunnel is already in service as early as 2021. Elon Musk built the project with the intention of transporting passengers and vehicles through fully autonomous, zero-emission electric skateboards, "point-to-point" in tunnels to reduce congestion by carrying 8 to 16 passengers at a time or a single-person vehicle.
It is reported that the length of this tunnel is about 1.3 kilometers, the design of the tunnel is a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour, the maximum speed of vehicles can exceed 200 kilometers per hour, through 60 fully autonomous Driving Teslas, more than 4400 passengers per hour can be transported to and from different exhibition halls.
The latest data show that on January 8, the underground tunnel carried a total of 37,800 passengers, an average of 3,151 passengers per hour.
However, at present, the Tesla driving speed in the track is far from reaching a speed of more than 200 kilometers per hour, the maximum speed of the vehicle is only 60-70 kilometers per hour, and it cannot use automatic driving, and the driver's seat still needs to be equipped with a driver. Manually driving at high speeds in narrow tunnels doesn't seem to be a safe thing, and the getting on and off the bus with a large number of spectators also creates a speed difference, so the front car in the video turns on the brake lights several times.
In addition, it took the manually driven Tesla nearly four minutes to transport passengers to the underground tunnel, rather than the two minutes of the target.
Therefore, the 1.3 km distance plus the time to get up and down the tunnel takes almost 10 minutes. Although it is faster than walking, it is still far from Musk's vision.
According to the company's plan, more than 40 stations will be built in the future, covering hotels and airports in downtown Las Vegas.
