In the history of the people's army, the encirclement and reinforcement tactics have been used many times. The Sujiabu campaign gave full play to the advantages of our army's proficiency in mobile warfare, concentrated the main force to form local superiority, and fully applied the tactics of encirclement and reinforcement.

He is gentle but good at fighting hard battles
During the period of the agrarian revolutionary war, the Eyu-Anhui Revolutionary Base Area staged many classic battles, and the Battle of Sujiabu was a classic of the classics, it was a battle fought between the Red Fourth Front and the Kuomintang Army, and the Red Army won a great victory by using the tactic of encircling points to fight for assistance.

Sujiabu is located in the northeast foothills of Dabie Mountain, on the west bank of the HuaiHe River, on the main road of water and land transportation, and is a place where soldiers and families must fight. At this time, the enemy took Sujiabu as the hub, along the east bank of the Wei River, Han Ferry, Qingshandian, Majia'an, north to Lu'an City, south to Huoshan, and laid down the strength of 6 brigades and 12 regiments in an attempt to prevent the Red Army from developing eastward.
At that time, the commander-in-chief of the Red Fourth Front was Comrade Xu Xiangqian, who, although gentle and elegant, was good at fighting hard battles and commanded the people's army to win many major victories. Comrade Li Xiannian once recalled: "Forward has amazing military boldness, never knowing what fear is. The more big battles, hard battles, and evil battles came, the more he was alive and well, and his spirit was a hundred times greater. ”

What is the magic of the reinforcement tactics?
Sujiabu, Han Ferry, and Qingshandian were the forward strongholds of the Kuomintang army in defending against blockades and attacking the Eyu-Anhui base area, which could be used as both a basis for attack and a fortress for retreat. Therefore, if the Red Army wanted to develop further to the east, it had to pull out these three strongholds.
After conducting a detailed analysis of the war situation, our army set down a specific strategic plan: Divide and encircle Sujiabu, Han Ferry, and Qingshandian from the flanks and rear, use the tactic of encircling points to attack and reinforce, use the "encirclement points" as bait to attract the rescued enemy, lay down "pocket arrays," annihilate the enemy, and finally capture the strongholds.
The purpose of encircling points for assistance is to provide assistance, and for the enemy who is besieged, it should be surrounded and not fought. The beauty of this is that it must be saved where it attacks the enemy, and the other party knows that it will suffer losses, but it also has to save. In the process of encircling points for reinforcements, our army can concentrate its superior forces to attack the reinforcements, annihilate the enemy in the movement, avoid the disadvantage of our army's lack of heavy weapons, give play to the strengths of the movement, and then win the final victory.

The Battle of Sujiabu won an unprecedented victory
On March 31, 1932, the Kuomintang army, under the cover of several aircraft, attempted to rescue the besieged strongholds. However, the Red Army had already laid an ambush to block the enemy head-on. The defenders in Qingshandian saw reinforcements coming, thought that the time was ripe, formed a death squad to break through, and were also annihilated by more than half, so the Red Army occupied Qingshandian.
At the end of April 1932, Chiang Kai-shek ordered Li Shiding, acting commander of the 7th Division of the Kuomintang Army, to lead a patchwork of 15 regiments and about 20,000 troops to help from Hefei in an attempt to once again rescue the sieges of Sujiabu and Handu.
Faced with the heavy pressure of the enemy, Marshal Xu Qianqian vigorously advocated to meet the enemy. The Red Army lured the enemy deeper, and when the enemy was lured to the vicinity of the steep tug-of-war, the Red Army took advantage of the enemy's unstable foothold across the river and the follow-up troops were still in the east of the river, and violently counterattacked and annihilated most of it. At the same time, two divisions of the Red Army quickly encircled the enemy's follow-up troops from the left and right flanks and destroyed the enemy's general headquarters in one fell swoop.
The 48-day Battle of Sujiabu annihilated more than 30,000 enemy regiments and captured 18,000 officers and men under the enemy's commander-in-chief Li Shiding and below, opening up a large area of the Soviet Union east of the Wei River, and becoming one of the glorious examples of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army's war history of encircling points to fight for aid and win more with less.
