The Assassin's Creed series has been a hit since its launch in 2007 and has maintained a frequency of at least one new game per year for several consecutive years. Although the cycle of new works is now slightly longer than before, "Assassin's Creed" as a longevity IP has indeed brought players a lot of pleasant gaming experience. So, if you make a vertical comparison of the same series of works, what kind of results can be obtained?

We did one of those rankings in 2015, but since then there have been multiple Assassin's Creed games released, so our perspective needs to change. So we decided to revisit all the major works in the series (excluding the spin-off series) and take stock of the brilliance and shortcomings of each one.

Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation (2012)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

Even if it's at the bottom of the list, it doesn't mean the game is "bad." As a work originally launched on PSV, although the graphics resolution was later adjusted to HD, it was unable to hide its game design and gameplay, which was subject to the performance of the system. But in addition to its gimmicky features and system limitations, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation is still a game with the essential style of Assassin's Creed.

During the battle, you can experience the joy of balancing attack and defense; following the plot, you will recognize the gray area between the Assassins and the Templar Order. However, although the heroine Aveline's ability to change costumes allowed her to explore in New Orleans, it did not make the work receive the expected response. While Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation failed to break new ground in surprise, it was still a well-made work.

Assassin's Creed 3 (2012)

The previous game portrayed Ezio too well, and this success is difficult to replicate, and Connor, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed 3, has also worked hard to perform under the dazzling light of his predecessors. Rather than his own success, Connor worked primarily under important historical figures and happened to be drawn into the major events of the American Revolutionary War.

We will not comment on the rationality of the plot, but in terms of gameplay, this game has added interesting elements such as naval battles and home construction. While colonial towns and vast wildernesses aren't as fascinating as Renaissance Europe, the idea is grandiose, encompassing a huge amount of content and a complex story that has influenced generations. Assassin's Creed 3 may not be a success, but it is a well-intentioned one.

11. Assassin's Creed revelation (2011)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

So far, every installment in the Assassin's Creed series has looked like a breakthrough in the foundation of the previous one. Assassin's Creed, however, is much the same as Ezio's other adventures. Fun gameplay, cool quests, and cinematic look and feel are a good piece of work, and there really isn't much to fault. But from another perspective, this is also a manifestation of the lack of innovation burnout for large IP.

As the only noteworthy new element in this game, the tower defense mini-game, it brings players a bad experience that will affect the overall sense of game pleasure, and even makes this game not a breakthrough, but the wind criticism is killed. In addition, although the story of Ezio and Altaïr ended with the end of Assassin's Creed revelations, Desmond's modern story has made little progress, which makes the work stagnant.

Assassin's Creed: Mutiny (2014)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

If you like Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, then most of you will also like Assassin's Creed: Rogue, because the two games are very similar, basically changing the characters and story background. The biggest improvement in this game is "cut" rather than "add", without the annoying tracking and eavesdropping missions of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and the rest of the gameplay is basically similar. This time, though, you'll play as a Templar who hunts down assassins.

Unfortunately, this game failed to apply this promising protagonist reversal setting. The gameplay of Assassin's Creed: Rogue remains the same old design of the series: sailing, deploying fleets, conquering territories, looting treasures, and the essential assassination missions. While the classic gameplay is endlessly fun, the gameplay is hardly impressive because of its lack of novelty.

9. Assassin's Creed: The Great Revolution (2014)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

You must have heard (and even experienced) the fear of being dominated by Assassin's Creed: Revolution fancy bugs, which really didn't wash up, and the game was a disaster in its early days. In the first few weeks, fans encountered many problems during the game, and Ubisoft had to come forward to formally apologize. Unfortunately, the wind rating of this work has been damaged.

But what's even more amazing is that Assassin's Creed: Revolution after fixing the loopholes is actually quite fun. Players can now experience fun co-op missions, rich game mechanics, challenging combat styles, and a story set in the French Revolution, virtually bug-free. In addition, the emotional depiction between Arnold and Elise is delicate, adding a bit of humanity to the story.

Assassin's Creed (2007)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

Although the original Assassin's Creed was not as comprehensive as the sequels to the series, it had a clear concept and goal, and it was a masterpiece. Most open-world titles similar to Assassin's Creed choose to focus on post-disaster modern cities, but Ubisoft breaks this pattern, placing players in a magnificent, mysterious and powerful ancient world, alternating between stealth and action elements, observing the environment and exploring.

The game's combat system is cleverly designed and unique, and the assassination methods of key characters have a fun gameplay like solving puzzles. Although the missions that preceded the assassination had a lot of repetition, the interlocking grand worldview was enough to whet the player's appetite and constantly attract the player to immerse themselves in the game world.

Assassin's Creed: Origins (2017)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

While each installment of the Assassin's Creed series will have some improvements, Assassin's Creed: Origins is undoubtedly the most improved compared to its predecessors. Not only has the battle system and process progress been redesigned, but RPG elements such as multi-type equipment, player levels, and expanded skill trees have been introduced.

Despite many changes, Assassin's Creed: Origins retains the core of the series, doing a great job of glamorous Egyptian flair and factional power struggles. The courage to innovate a work is usually accompanied by mixed results, and although the changes in this work are worth looking forward to, the overall quality is mediocre, which makes people wonder that this is just a "test of the waters" of the follow-up and greater innovation.

Assassin's Creed: The Hall of Heroes (2020)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

Compared to the sheer size of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, the map of Assassin's Creed: The House of Heroes seems to have shrunk, but it's arguably more informative than any game in the series to date. Spanning all of England and two mysterious territories (a third will soon be released, a new Mythological Line expansion will be released soon in 2022), plus two DLC in Ireland and France, to put it bluntly, in Assassin's Creed: The Temple of Heroes, you don't have to worry about doing nothing.

Whether it's sailing on the banks of the English River, having Evol incarnate as a Viking king/queen for looting, assassinating members of the Order of the Ancients, or hunting and killing the furry legendary predators everywhere, you'll be enriched. Like other open-world RPG predecessors, assassin's creed: The Temple of Heroes' plot involves conflicts between the Assassin Order and the Templars, and reveals some important hints about the subsequent plot direction. But at its core, it's a story of family, sacrifice, and revenge. If you want to immerse yourself in the world of Assassin's Creed for hundreds of hours, try Assassin's Creed: The Valiant.

Assassin's Creed 2 (2009)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

With the open-world setting set, Assassin's Creed 2 gives players more cities to explore, richer activities, and a more exhilarating combat experience. It is also worth mentioning that the protagonist Ezio, as the most famous hero of the series to date, debuted in this game. Other key elements include building and upgrading headquarters, finding collectibles and multiple revenue avenues.

In addition, the work brings players a visual enjoyment, from towering cathedrals to intricate waterways, perfectly recreating the glorious landscape of Renaissance Italy. With so much fun and good content, the appeal of Assassin's Creed 2 is unquestionable.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (2013)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

In many ways, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is set up in a very different way from its predecessors in the series, but the gameplay isn't bad at all. As a treasure hunter, you won't see the tall buildings and political intrigues of the past in this game, but instead the dangers of the rough seas. The life of a pirate is intense, you will experience the thrill of exploration and the chaos of naval battles, and the ship song of the crew is simply full of a sense of the times.

Although the plot of this game is slightly loose, the sense of achievement of conquering islands in the game can effectively dilute the shortcomings of the plot. If You play Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag as a pirate legend rather than a traditional Assassin's Creed game, you might be able to enjoy more of the game.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (2018)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey continues the RPG style that began with Assassin's Creed: Origins and fully incorporates new genre elements into the series structure. As an ancient Greek mercenary, players have a high degree of freedom of exploration in the game. You can make choices in the dialogue or sail on the expansive map on a customizable vessel, and the sense of freedom that opens up is exciting.

The game's skill tree will also bring you a variety of exciting combat skills, allowing you to experience the feeling of being invincible on the battlefield. While a large number of missions and activities can be somewhat repetitive, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's excellent follow-up support (free and paid DLC content) can inject variety into your adventures.

Assassin's Creed: The Owl (2015)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

A game series can gain more development experience than a single game title because it can try to improve its gameplay or content elements in different titles. Assassin's Creed: Owl is a classic work created after being screened and combined with the elements of the past.

The assassination missions in this game are meticulously crafted (and each one is distinctive), and the Victorian setting is even more fascinating. In addition, various adventure experiences also hide surprises, players can use ziplines to shuttle between buildings, and the upgrade system also brings more powerful skills to the adventures of the two protagonists, The Frye siblings.

1. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (2010)

A list of thirteen Assassin's Creed series

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood strikes a near-perfect balance between distilling the best of the past and pioneering one's own style. The game not only retains many of the classic settings of Assassin's Creed 2, but also adds new elements to the series, deepening the player's experience and satisfaction. In this game, players can take a more aggressive approach to combat, such as using a chain kill set to bring down multiple enemies, instead of having to hide in a corner and wait for assassination as before.

This time Ezio's base was no longer limited to a single building, he repaired almost the entire city of Rome, divided territory, and improved shops to increase the influence of the Assassin Order. At the same time, Ezio can recruit and train new people and summon them to come to their aid in battle, or send them on missions.

With the addition of management and management elements, Ezio is no longer a lone wolf in the crowd, but has transformed into an assassin master who looks at the overall situation, strategizes, and controls the fate of the organization. In addition, the multiplayer competitive mode introduced in this game also further improves the gameplay. These features set Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood apart from the many titles in the series and secured its top spot.
