Samsung's chip production will reduce carbon by nearly 700,000 metric tons in 2021

Jiwei Network reported that Samsung Electronics promised to build a green and sustainable future in the pre-show keynote speech at CES 2022, and the Carbon Trust certified memory chip produced by Samsung last year reduced carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 700,000 metric tons.

Data display. Last year, Samsung's Carbon Trust-certified memory chips reduced carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 700,000 metric tons, and its tentacles extended to the use of recycled materials. Samsung Imaging&T plans to increase the use of recycled plastics by 30 times by 2021. Samsung also revealed that it will further expand the use of recycled materials in the next three years, including all mobile products and home appliances.

It is reported that in 2021, all TV cartons under Samsung will be made of recycled materials. This year, Samsung said it will expand the scope of application of recycled materials, covering the internal packaging materials of cartons, and Samsung also announced that it can transform cartons into environmentally friendly packaging plans for cat houses, side tables, and other practical small things at home, which will be included in home appliance packaging in the future, such as vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, and air cleaners.

In addition, Samsung plans to reduce the standby power of all TV and mobile phone chargers to nearly zero by 2025, so that when the product is idle, it can achieve near-zero power consumption.

E-waste is another serious challenge facing the electronics industry, so Samsung has been actively recycling e-waste since 2009, and the cumulative recycling volume has exceeded 5 million metric tons so far.

In addition, Samsung Electronics also said today that benefiting from the steady demand for server memory chips and the improvement in chip foundry margins, its operating profit in the fourth quarter may soar 52% year-on-year to 13.8 trillion won (about 11.5 billion US dollars), the highest in the same period in four years. In a brief earnings report, Samsung estimated that the company's fourth-quarter revenue could rise 23 percent from a year earlier to 76 trillion won ($63.1 billion). In addition, Samsung will release a detailed financial report on January 27. (Proofreading/Holly)
