02、 The mysterious "Donkey Tomb"
This is a legend of the "red monkey burial" that is widely spread in the Wanzhou area of Chongqing.
The ancient tomb that was guided by the red monkey and buried is known as the "Donkey Horse Tomb" in the folk.
But who is buried in the grave of the pack horse? Where exactly is it located? No one answers these questions!
In August 1978, the villagers of the Horse Brigade of Wanzhou Horse Commune (this place name is amazing!) While carrying out land reclamation, the opening of an ancient tomb was inadvertently discovered.
The tomb was surveyed by experts from the Sichuan Provincial Museum and determined to be a Tang tomb.
The tomb also has a conical enclosure with a diameter of 30 metres and a mound 6.5 metres above the ground.
The burial chamber is a single-chamber brick tomb with an arched roof, consisting of a burial chamber, a corridor and a tomb passage. The walls of the tomb are painted with colorful murals, which can be seen with green dragons, white tigers and stars.
"The donkey brigade dug up the donkey's grave..." It didn't take long for the news to go away.
At that time, the people were extremely excited, many people grew up listening to the story of the "red monkey burial", curious about the mysterious donkey grave, helpless story is a story after all, no one can give them the truth!
Well, the donkey grave was really dug out, and the original legend was true!
In the process of excavation and cleaning, archaeologists still found a robbery hole, and cleaned up a lot of messy artifact fragments in the filling soil of the tomb, of which the celadon figurines were the most brilliant.
03. Horse Hunting
The tomb is a Tang tomb, which has been more than a thousand years ago. Judging from the remaining tall sealed mounds, this tomb is by no means for ordinary people to enjoy.
Although the tomb was stolen and excavated with the burial goods, there were many surviving celadon figurines, including civil and military officials, as well as armored knights and guards and maids!
All this silently tells us that the identity of the owner of the tomb is not ordinary!
So, will he be the colt we've been looking for?
It was at this time that the two epitaphs found in the tomb turned things around.
Both epitaphs are blue-gray limestone, one of which stands in the middle of the Yongdao leaning against the wall, and the epitaph cover is missing; the other side is laid flat between the Yongdao and the burial chamber.
One tomb unearthed two epitaphs? Why?
This is actually not difficult to explain, this should be a Tang Dynasty husband and wife burial tomb. Husbands and wives each have an epitaph.
However, the epitaphs on both sides are badly worn, and the handwriting on them is missing a lot of water erosion information, and the missing part is exactly the name of the tomb owner and the age of the inscription!
From the remaining epitaphs, experts interpret that the owner of the tomb was appointed to the history of the Lizhou Thorn in the sixth year of Zhenguan, and then succeeded to the Lingzhou Yongzhou Thorn History...
According to these clues, experts immediately checked in ancient books such as Wanzhou County Chronicle and finally found a person who could correspond to it!
This person's name was Ran Rencai, he was born during the Sui Kai Emperor's reign, his ancestral home was Wanzhou, Chongqing, in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, which was called Puzhou in the Tang Dynasty. Ran Rencai was brilliant since childhood, learned literature and martial arts, and was the founding father of the Tang Dynasty.
On the second epitaph, it is still faintly possible to identify words such as "Huang Ji", combined with the record of "Gongshang Hannan County Lord" in the epitaph, it can be combined to speculate that Ran Rencai's wife was born into the royal family and was the daughter of the King of Hannan.
The New Book of Tang says: "The prince's daughter is the county lord, from Erpin." ”
It turned out that although Ran Rencai was not a real Tang Dynasty princess, she was also the daughter of a noble prince.
The common people could not distinguish between a princess, a county lord or a county lord, only that Ran Ren had married a royal daughter, that is, a first-class horse master...
In 654, Ran Rencai died and was buried in his hometown.
I don't know when it began, the legend about this "donkey tomb" has been extended for thousands of years...
This is a "beautiful" misunderstanding, but it has also made a moving legend!
