Beijing: Promote the introduction of water-saving regulations and carry out "pigging action" in depth

Beijing, 6 Jan (Xinhua) -- In his government work report delivered at the fifth session of the 15th Beijing Municipal People's Congress on 6 January, Beijing Mayor Chen Jining said that Beijing will promote the promulgation of water-saving regulations this year, carry out in-depth "pigging actions," and complete the third round of urban and rural water environment management.

In recent years, Beijing has comprehensively promoted the construction of a water-saving society around the strategic positioning of the capital city and vigorously promoted the high-quality development of the capital. According to the water-saving target tasks of Beijing Municipality during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period and the "Beijing Water-saving Action Implementation Plan", Beijing aims to build a world-class harmonious and livable city and takes high-quality development as the requirement, and comprehensively promotes the implementation of the goals and tasks of the water-saving action.

Chen Jining said that Beijing will promote pollution reduction and carbon reduction synergy this year, adhere to the priority of conservation, take scientific and technological innovation as the traction, and steadily promote carbon neutrality actions. This year, Beijing will vigorously build a water-saving society, promote the introduction of water-saving regulations, promote the measurement of water users, formulate and revise 26 water-saving standards, and control the total amount of water used for production and domestic use within 3 billion cubic meters throughout the year.

It is reported that Beijing plans to complete the third round of urban and rural water environment governance action tasks this year, issue opinions on strengthening the implementation of the river and lake chief system, carry out in-depth special actions of "clearing pipes", "clear rivers" and "clearing the four chaos", and severely crack down on illegal acts such as discharging sewage into rainwater pipes and culverts and dumping garbage. In addition, Beijing will focus on the closed-loop water supply of underground water transmission rings in central urban areas, improve the water supply pipe network, improve the quality of household water and the reliability of water supply, and promote the inclusion of 20 administrative villages in the coverage of urban public water supply.
