Historical place names and their changes often imply the history and culture of their regional societies. With the rapid process of urban modernization, many old place names have disappeared, and it is urgent to retain the memory of these cities and inherit the historical context.
Recently, the Chongqing Civil Affairs Bureau released the second batch of the Chongqing Municipal List of Historical Geographical Names Protection, and selected 96 historical geographical names based on the historical, popular, cultural connotation, cultural uniqueness and inheritance value of geographical names.
Together with the first batch of 115 historical geographical names published, there are now 211 protected historical geographical names. In accordance with the requirements for the protection of geographical names, the geographical names included in the List of The Protection of Historic Geographical Names shall be protected by hierarchical classification.
