Reference News Network reported on January 4 that according to the Russian TV today website reported on January 3, New York State Attorney General Lititia James has issued subpoenas to Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump Jr. to investigate the Trump family business. Their father, Donald Trump, called James' investigation politically motivated.

According to the New York Times on Monday, authorities issued a subpoena to the Trump siblings in early December 2021. According to court documents cited by multiple media outlets, the lawyers of the two will file a motion to revoke the subpoena.

In December, former U.S. President Donald Trump also reportedly received a subpoena, which he subsequently responded by suing James. Trump claims that James' two-year-long investigation violated his civil rights. Trump's lawyers said the investigation was "partisanist" and "an angry crusade" launched by James to "punish her political opponents."

Trump's complaint says James' investigation can essentially be boiled down to "baseless" phishing evidence. Trump's lawyer said james publicly committed himself to legal action against Trump on Twitter, and that was the evidence.

James tweeted on Twitter in 2018 that Former Trump lawyer Michelle Cohen said, "You and your cronies are not above the law. We are approaching justice every day. Wait until I get to the Attorney General's Office. ”

Later that year, James became new York's attorney general, and investigating Trump was an important campaign promise.

James's investigation is of a civil nature, focusing on whether Trump exaggerates the value of Trump Organization assets in order to obtain loans and downgrades asset values elsewhere to get tax breaks.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance is also investigating whether Trump lied to banks and tax authorities about the value of his assets, which is a criminal investigation. Although Vance's tenure as Manhattan district attorney ended on Jan. 1, successor Alvin Bragg will continue to investigate Trump. Last month, Vance also subpoenaed Trump to provide evidence, but Trump did not cooperate. (Compiled /Wang Qiang)
