Wen na: My original intention was to draw some new immortals for the future

Wen Na, formerly known as Chen Xingxing, a beijing girl after the 80s, graduated from the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, loved to paint fairy tale watercolors in college, and worked as an illustration editor in Beijing Youth Daily after graduation. Because she wanted to have more time to paint, she became a professional painter.

Draw some new immortals for the future

Friends who have been to Beijing will definitely be impressed by the giant mural "The Gods Going to Work" at the Guomao subway station.

This picture, as the highlight of the 2020 Beijing CBD Arts Festival, was specially tailored by artist Wenna to be commissioned for the CBD Art Festival. "The Work of the Gods" is like an interesting puzzle composed of flowers and various gods.

There are not only the four immortals of the Fulu Shoujue, the eight immortals who are eating hot pot, the Chang'e and the seven fairies who are shopping, but also the innovative symbols such as "the god of leaving work early", "the god of lightning returning", "the lady of the koi" and other innovative symbols that are close to the rhythm of the times and close to life.

In this picture of immortals, whether it is the elite of the business circle, ordinary white-collar workers, or service workers, they can find their own "immortal appearance" in this picture, and build a real and lively human fireworks and a warm and harmonious cultural atmosphere between the advanced and developed buildings in the CBD.

Seize the opportunity and strive to pursue

In 2010, in the Sanbao International Pottery Village in Jingdezhen, WenNa met Teacher Li Jianshen, and Teacher Li's "paradise" gave her the urge to stay. But to live in the art village, you have to have works.

Wen Na said to Teacher Li, "You will prepare me a bowl and a wall, and I will take a pen with me." I'll make you a bowl of braised pork and draw you a wall. ”

Not long after, an earthen rammed wall stood up in front of Teacher Li's hotel, Wen Na held a brush for the first time to paint on the wall, she held the pen in the same posture as holding a pen, but it did not affect her creation in the slightest, she painted three gods related to diet in one breath - the king of the stove, the god of wine Du Kang and the tea god Lu Yu.

Teacher Li was full of admiration for his work, and Wen Na took the opportunity to ask for a painting on the earthen wall at the mouth of the village.

Teacher Li pointed at Wen Na and said, "That wall is my face, are you going to paint on my face?" "Great gathering of gods and immortals from all over the world." Wen Na's painting was full of meaning, and it really went to Teacher Li's "face" to paint.

This time, Wen Na drew the immortals in her heart by imagination and opened the door to the creation of her ghost murals.

She looked at the earthen wall for a while, did not draft, and drew with a stroke of the pen.

This painting is located at the mouth of Sanbao Village, and Wenna combined the artistic attributes of the village with the characteristics of Jingdezhen to paint a "Map of the Shu Hai" and the inscription "Devonian Period".

It was such an opportunity that allowed her to show her talents and put her on the path of creating her own murals.

Hand in hand with Chinese culture

French luxury brand Hermès' "Wonderland Walk" exhibition in each country will look for a local artist to create a public space. This time in China they invited Vinna to create a paris metro station theme for the city's art district.

Wenna is clearly the most suitable artist for this exhibition, in addition to the works based on Buddhist and mythological elements, the content conveys a connection from ancient mythology to the present day, expressing a sense of perpetuation, which is very much in line with the essence of the Hermès brand.

Influenced by Chinese culture since childhood, when Wen Na created Chinese immortals, she inevitably used the Chinese elements she had seen and remained in her memory.

It was a vague feeling that was unique to Chinese but rooted in memory. When she has the ability to go abroad, Chinese culture also breaks into the eyes of foreign friends, which is clear and interesting.

The Book of Vinna

Once, Wen Na suddenly thought that if a wall collapsed or was demolished, the mural would no longer exist, which was a pity. So she relied on her memories and photos to save her former paintings with line drawings.

One after another, the immortals and ghosts were all collected together and made into scrolls. In her spare time, she will also constantly replenish the immortals that jump into her mind, the scrolls are getting longer and longer, and the more the immortals are loaded.

Wen Na named it "ZemuTu" as one of his treasures. The scroll is a long, continuous painting with no words or stories on it. She began to write stories and organize them into a book called the Wen Na Jing.

There are more immortals painted and more fairy stories made up, and Wen Na feels that everything still lacks a real origin. She continued to look back, only to find that the work she was going to make was not actually a mural or a scroll, but a real core.

She called it the Venna Sutra. The Wen Na Jing is a collection of Wen Na's own gods, strange people, and strange things.

Wen na: My original intention was to draw some new immortals for the future

Since the birth of the Wen Na Jing, Wen Na has faced such a question: With so many immortals, who is the protagonist? Who has the ability to rule over so many gods in the whole book?

In the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way people live, and the stay-at-home Wenna suddenly had the answer. She chose a god called "Accommodating."

With nature, time and latitude, Wen Na's creative material is inexhaustible, but she is willing to leave blank, never creating murals on the walls of the home, because the walls remain white, but more likely to have everything.

END

Wen na: My original intention was to draw some new immortals for the future

"My original intention is to paint some new gods and immortals for the future, the future myth can not always be "Search for God", "Journey to the West", "Classic of Mountains and Seas", which is too restrictive of everyone's imagination, Jin Yong is also creating characters, but now many people believe that his characters once existed in history, increasing the creative image of everyone's memory. I also want to do something like this for the future, which is also the goal of the future. ”
