The marriage of Kublai Khan's family is a mess you can't imagine

In the history of the Mongolian Yuan, there is a very special tribe - the Hongji Rabu. This tribe, which first lived in the area between the current Hulun Lake and Lake Bell, is also known as "Guangjira" and "Wengjira". It means "brown horse".

At that time, Temujin's father should have snatched a bride who had just married and was returning to the tribe with her husband and became his own bride. This bride is Khao Rin from the Hiroki clan and temujin's biological mother. Since then, Hiroyoshi Rabu has formed an indissoluble relationship with temujin's boer family.

Holding Genghis Khan's Khao Erlun

When Temujin was nine years old, his father was also quick to go to temujin's uncle's tribe to book a family affair for him, and his wife was the eleven-year-old daughter of Hongji Rabu Te XueChan. This Bo Erti was also the biological mother of Shuchi, Wokoutai, Chagatai and Tuolei.

In 1206, Temujin, who had become Genghis Khan, after killing ah man, the chief of the Hongjirabu clan, enfeoffed the sons of Tessei Chan as a thousand households, making them the chief family of the Hongjirabu. And decreed: Hongjira clan "give birth to a daughter as a queen, give birth to a male princess, and the world is endless." Since then, the tribal alliance between the Bo'er Jin clan and the Hongjira clan has been determined with the hereditary relationship as the link, and the special status of the Te Xue Chan family in the Mongolian Yuan Dynasty has also been established.

After Genghis Khan, Möngke, Kublai Khan, Chengzong (Kublai Khan's grandson Timur), Wuzong, Renzong, Emperor Taiding, Emperor Wenzong, Emperor Ningzong, and Emperor Shun all had empresses of the Hongji clan. The nobles of Hongjira also maintained the longevity of the clan by marrying the princess of the Bo'er Zhijin family.

Through the marriage between each other, a community of interests is formed, so as to resolve the struggle between the two sides and form a unified external alliance. This is a very normal thing for the steppe tribes. Not only Mongolia, but also the marriage between the Yelü clan and the Xiao clan in the liao state before, and then the marriage between the Qing dynasty royal family and the mobei Mongolia, all adopted this model.

However, the marriage between Bo Erjin and Hongjira is completely beyond the scope that ordinary people can understand.

Kublai Khan's empress Nambi

Möngke Khan's empress Kudutai Yasu'er, was the daughter of Tesxue Chan's grandson, Busy Brother Chen, and the two were cousins according to their generations, and they were considered cousins. Marriage between cousins was nothing in ancient times, so it was generally acceptable.

Correspondingly, Te Xue Chan's grandson Hui Chen also married a princess of the Bo'er-only Jin family, and was the daughter of Tuo Lei. This marriage has changed somewhat. Hui Chen is also the nephew of Grandma Bo Erti, and he also marries his cousin. Another granddaughter of Temujin, Xue Zhengan, is also married to her cousin, Na Chen, the brother of Hu Chen.

This is still acceptable.

By the time of Kublai Khan, however, his marriage was completely out of order.

The marriage of Kublai Khan's family is a mess you can't imagine

Kublai Khan's first empress (accurately known as "Ear") Wastholung, was the daughter of Chen Sun. According to Chen, the brother of Temujin's true wife, Erti, he was named "Uncle of the State" by Wokoutai, and in terms of generations, Thegulun was Kublai Khan's niece.

Well, if Kublai Khan really liked his niece, as an emperor, this power was still unquestionable. For nomadic-born people, this kind of thing is also normal.

However, this Thegulum was not very popular with Kublai Khan, preferring the second empress, Chabi. Chabi, according to Chen's daughter, is Kublai Khan's aunt (cousin) in terms of generations, and is also the sister of Kublai Khan's first empress, Theguron's grandfather, well, it seems that she should be called "aunt grandmother".

It is said that Chabi is not only beautiful in appearance, but also versatile. He played an important role in helping Kublai Khan fight for the Khan's throne. She belongs to the kind of woman who "can go up to the hall and get down to the kitchen", so she is very favored by Kublai Khan. In 1262, she was made empress, and in March 1273, she was canonized with the title of "Empress Zhenyi Zhaosheng Shun Tianrui Wenguangying", and it was also from this time that the Yuan Dynasty began to have the ceremony of canonizing empresses. It is said that the "vest" we wear now is derived from the "bijia" invented by the empress.

In 1281, after The death of Chabi, Kublai Khan almost fell ill with longing. Two years later, in honor of the death of Chabi, kublai Khan, 66, married a girl of the Hongjira clan. This girl, named Nanbi, was the daughter of Na Chen's grandson Xiantong, and the relationship was quite complicated.

Nanbi's father is Na Chen's grandson, and Cha Bi is Na Chen's sister, so should Nan Bi be called Cha Bi Wei - Great-Aunt Grandma? Meaning: Kublai Khan, 66, married his own granddaughter.

Thus, kublai Khan's three empresses, one of his fathers and uncles, one of his sons and nephews, and one of his grandchildren

His marriage spanned four generations! This emperor's teeth are really not generally good!

Chabi in Mongolian stamps

However, this is not the most tasteful marriage for Kublai Khan's family.

Kublai Khan's cousin Na Chen sheng had three concubines, the eldest Hu Luo Chen first married Princess Wanze (I don't know whose daughter), after the death of Princess Wanze, Kublai Khan took his daughter (his own daughter) Nang Jiazhen and married her cousin Luo Chen; after Huo Luo Chen's death, his brother Timur continued to marry his niece and his eldest sister-in-law Nang Jia Zhen; soon after, Timur died again, and his younger brother ManZitai continued, and then married his niece who was also his eldest sister-in-law and his second sister-in-law Nang Jia Zhen.

So, here's the problem, please ask:

Why should Kublai Khan call his daughter Zhenxiang?

Option 1: Eldest cousin, second cousin or third cousin?

Option 2: Big aunt, second aunt or third aunt?

Option 3: Eldest niece, second or third niece?

Recommendation 4: Big Grandma, Second Grandma or Third Grandma?

However, these almost incestuous marriages in our present view may not be a matter at all for the families of the emperors from Mongolia.
