Probably many readers are already familiar with He Xiaozhu, the author of today's poetry. He Xiaozhu is one of the most active figures in Sichuan poetry today, and he is also a novelist and self-media operator, showing great energy. He Xiaozhu's poems mostly use everyday language, no matter how big or small, and he is very meticulous in his observation of life, and with the help of detailed descriptions ignored by ordinary people, he can often touch the subtle structure of the world and reveal the ultimate problem of life.
The poem "Waiting for Guizhou to Rain" writes a small matter that is easy to be overlooked, and it uses the purest white depiction to not only allow a living Old Chinese man to appear in front of the reader, but also allows people to go deep into his spiritual world, feel his love, anxiety and expectation, and at the same time integrate the author's deep affection for his parents as a son.
"Waiting for Guizhou to Rain" not only embodies the exquisite understanding of life, but also shows superb skill, which is rare in such a short poem. Reading through the whole poem, we find that it begins with "My dad is coming" and "My dad is coming" in the middle. Is this a clumsy repetition? If we think about it, we will find that this is actually the most concise way of narration. It is difficult to say that all this is deliberate, and it can only make people lament that the poet's sense of language is too strong.
There is another important reason for introducing this poem today: it alludes to a sense of our present life. In the poem, "my dad" and "my mom" are quarantined by "seasickness," and what determines whether this isolation can end is an uncertain event in the distance: "It's raining in Guizhou Province." In the context of the pandemic, our lives are confined to a narrow confinement, while at the same time strangely determined by what happens far away. Just like in October, I wanted to fly back from Chengdu to Beijing to see my parents, but the flight was cancelled because of the epidemic in Chengdu. Beijing stipulates that only personnel from provinces and cities who have been "cleared" for more than fourteen days can enter Beijing, so my father cares about the epidemic report in Chengdu every day, just like the father in the poem introduced today, who has to read the weather forecast in Guizhou every day.
We are in a period when our world is dictated by uncertainty, and we must continue our lives in constant competition and negotiation with it, with love, sweat, and beautiful blossoms. In anticipation, we watch as its fruit grows.
