High school seniors build driverless bicycles: the level of automatic assisted driving is comparable to tesla

With the development of science and technology, four-wheeled cars with automatic assisted driving are not uncommon today, so have you ever seen a two-wheeled driverless bicycle?

According to media reports, recently, Shi Mulang, a senior high school student from Hangzhou No. 9 Middle School, made a bicycle that can be driverless, and also won the first prize of the Yau Chengtong Middle School Science Award in the Chinese Division.

As can be seen from the video, this bicycle that can achieve driverlessness is not much different from ordinary bicycles as a whole, and even looks more concise and cool. The difference is that there are depth cameras and lidar at the handlebars and saddles, respectively.

Through the depth camera and lidar, the data can be transmitted back to the "central brain" above the bicycle's rear wheels in real time, so that the bicycle can be controlled to maintain balance while also choosing the optimal path to drive.

According to Shi Mulang, the most difficult part of this bicycle that can drive automatically is to maintain the balance of the vehicle. In addition, because the bicycle cannot turn freely like the car, while meeting the kinematic characteristics of the bicycle, it is also necessary to analyze the motion trajectory and kinematic constraints of the front and rear wheels.

In the end, in nearly a year, Shi Mulang successfully completed the entire bicycle project at the end of March last year by writing code, doing simulation experiments, and constantly debugging the system.

At present, the path planning and decision-making module in the "central brain" of this bicycle has a control algorithm between L2-L3, comparable to the Tesla flying automatic assisted driving level.
