As cefts show approaching, GAF Energy has also previewed timberline Solar Energy Shingles rooftop PV solutions to be showcased at CES 2022. As a sister company of the roofing giant GAF, the biggest feature of this program is that it can be installed in place with only one nail gun, and the construction speed is faster than ever.
Like traditional roofing materials, Timberline Solar photovoltaic panels can be installed with the same tools ( i.e. nail guns ) .
A company spokesperson said that compared to bracket solar panels, the installation of the new solution takes only half the time, and labor often accounts for the majority of the cost.
Compared to Solar City, timberline Solar costs about half the former and is comparable to the cost of a new bayed roof.
In terms of appearance, GAF Energy also strives to be low-key and not obtrusive. For example, electrical components and wiring are located on top of the shingle for subsequent maintenance.
But this also means that although the shingle is less than 1/4 inch thick, the wired conduits can still be seen. In addition, referring to the company's disclosed data, its shingles have been applied on the roofs of many customers (1.4 million per year).
As for whether this critically acclaimed solution (which won the CES 2022 Smart City / Smart Home Innovation Award) can promote the large-scale application of photovoltaic roofs, it remains to be tested.
