On the contrary, Xue Yue was full of confidence in defending Hainan Island. Among the senior generals of the Nationalist Army, Xue Yue's level was still relatively high. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Xue Yue rose to fame in the defense of Changsha and was known as the "Tiger of Changsha". So why did Xue Yue, who had 100,000 heavy troops, fail to defend Hainan Island? The main reason was that he made a serious mistake: he ignored the role of the Qiongya Column.
The reason why Siye was able to successfully liberate Hainan Island was that the Qiongya Column was indispensable. Before the war, Feng Baiju sent his chief of staff Fu Zhenzhong to smuggle people across the strait and sent important information such as the hydrological and meteorological data of the coastal ports and coastlines to Siye, so that our army could know itself and know the other; after the battle began, Qiongzhong and the siye Dengdao troops jointly launched an attack on the enemy.
In fact, before the Battle of Hainan Island began, Qiongzhong's situation was very difficult. From the time of the Agrarian Revolutionary War, Qiongzhong fought independently, rarely receiving support and assistance from fraternal troops, so they often faced the dilemma of insufficient ammunition. After the final defeat, Xue Yue was annoyed by this. If he had been able to draw out his troops to launch a large-scale attack on Qiongzhong at that time, it would have been impossible for Qiongzhong to repulse the enemy's attack with his strength and weapons and equipment at that time, and he would have retreated into the mountains and then launched a guerrilla attack. At that time, it would be as difficult for Qiong Zhong to take over the landing troops of Siye, and it would be much more difficult to fight without Qiong Zhong's battle of Hainan Island.
