Sai Shang'a set a blockade strategy in an attempt to trap the Taiping army in the narrow Zijing Mountains, but the Taiping Army broke through to the east, and after the Qing army, captured the mountain city of Yong'an, and then sealed the kingship system in Yong'an and expanded the team.
At the end of 1851, The Governor of Sai Shang ordered the various ministries to encircle Yong'an on all sides. In addition to Ulantai, there were also Guangxi admiral Xiang Rong, but Ulantai and Xiang Rong were at odds, and Jiang Zhongyuan wanted to mediate for them, but to no avail.
During the siege of Yong'an, a feud broke out again between Ulantai and Xiang Rong. Xiang Rong proposed the "ancient military law", the so-called "ancient military law", that is, to encircle the three ques and one, pretending to leave a way for the besieged Taiping army to escape, and then intercepting it halfway. Ulantai pointed out that the Taiping Army in Yong'an City is now less than ten thousand, and the Qing army is several times larger than the enemy, as long as it persists in the siege, even if it cannot attack the city, just starvation can starve the Taiping Army to death.

The three-and-one playing style can usually be implemented smoothly when the defenders' will is close to the brink of collapse. In other words, as long as they are given a gap, they will desperately drill out like an awl, and with the state and combat effectiveness of the Qing army, nine times out of ten, they will neither intercept nor catch up. On the contrary, if the siege continues, no matter how strong the will of the defenders is, it will be consumed a little bit, in fact, due to internal and external communication, the relief is cut off, and the food of the Taiping Army in the city has run out, and the gunpowder has been used up, which means that the time they can hold Yong'an has been counted down.
Jiang Zhongyuan saw the plight of the Taiping Army, he sided with Ulantai, and wrote a letter to Xiang Rong on behalf of Ulantai, urging everyone to work together to encircle and annihilate the enemy, but it was not accepted by Xiang Rong.
Xiang Rong dedicated his "ancient art of war" to Sai Shang'a, who was anxious to report to the imperial court and adopted his advice. By this time, Jiang Zhongyuan had a premonition that the Qing army would be defeated, and he could not do anything to stay in the army, and at the same time, he was deeply disappointed in the style of all the officers and troops of all departments and troops, and he was also deeply disappointed in the style of being unable to make a decision on the spot and fight in coordination, so he said that he was sick and retired, and returned to Xinning with Chu Yong.
Unsurprisingly, it was precisely with the help of the gap left by Xiang Rong's "ancient art of war" that the Taiping Army raided in the rainy night and forcibly broke out of the encirclement, and the Qing army lost the best and last opportunity to strangle the Taiping Army in the early stage of its entrepreneurship.
After yong'an broke through, the Taiping army marched northward and directly approached Guilin. Next, the Taiping Army will inevitably continue to go north into Hunan and even Xinning, this time without official supervision and conscription, Jiang Zhongyuan scattered his family wealth, donated funds to raise 1,200 brave people, rushed to guilin within a month, and instructed the third brother Jiang Zhongji and his friend Liu Changyou and others in the same county to recruit another 500 people, and then followed up.
Just before arriving in Guilin, Jiang Zhongyuan heard the news that Ulantai led his troops to pursue the Taiping Army, but was wounded and killed outside Guilin.
The Taiping Army was really terrible and hateful, and Jiang Zhongyuan was sad. He knew that the battle he was about to meet would be more difficult and dangerous, and in the face of this challenge that he had never faced before, he would have to do his best.
