On the occasion of new year's day, the award elements of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were officially released, including the award podium, the award tray, the award tray placement platform, the customized mascot souvenirs of the winning athletes, the award bouquet and the award ceremony costume. What is particularly striking is that the award bouquet is handmade using the representative project of Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage "Haipai Velvet Thread Weaving Technique".

The awarding of symbolic plants on the podium is a long tradition of the Olympic Movement. According to records, the original Olympic Games awarded the winners the laurels of olive branches, which later evolved into bouquets of flowers. Although the bouquets of the previous awards have different flower materials, they have all reflected the Olympic spirit and the cultural characteristics of the host country and the host city.

The Winter Olympics bouquet is made of velvet thread, including roses, moon seasons, bell orchids, hydrangeas, laurel and olives, which symbolize friendship, tenacity, happiness, unity, victory and peace, respectively, and a blue cosmos is added to the Winter Paralympic Awards bouquet, symbolizing strength.

The flowers are shaped and bundled into bouquets with a height of 34 cm and a chest diameter of 24 cm. The bow ribbon of the bouquet handle is printed with the words "BEIJING 2022", and the bouquet is fresh and natural, which is in line with the main color of the Beijing Winter Olympics, highlighting the distinctive characteristics of ice and snow sports.

The bouquets of the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were provided by the Shanghai Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project Protection Unit of "Haipai Velvet Thread Weaving Technique", with a total of 1251 bouquets and a total of 16731 flower materials. Each flower has leaves and flowers, and is made by hand. A single rose takes at least 5 hours for a knotweighter. In addition, due to the different materials and techniques, it takes up to 35 hours to complete a bouquet of exquisite flowers, and the total hand-made time of all bouquets is nearly 50,000 hours.

This glorious and arduous task has mobilized the knotting societies of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other provinces and cities to participate together, and the production work is led by Li Meimei, a representative inheritor of the Shanghai municipal level of "Haipai Velvet Knitting Technique".
