Prost: It is not advisable to start in reverse order F1 must remain traditional

Lewis Hamilton chased 15 positions in the Basis Sprint Qualifying, which was exciting, with Charles Leclerc saying it showed the "potential" of introducing reverse starts in F1, but F1 CEO Stefano Domenicari insisted they did not want to bring that element into the sport, although there were still fears that the "reverse start" could be part of F1 in the future. Sprint qualifying was experimented with in three races of the 2021 season, and after being considered a success, that number could double in 2022.

Prost disagreed with Leclerc, who had previously said he would quit the sport altogether if there was a reverse start, and his thinking has not changed since then.

He said: "I'm totally against the idea of starting in reverse, that's for sure, F1 shouldn't accept that, even in sprints. It's not that Lewis has done a great job in Brazil, we should think that every race with every driver can be like this. I'm more in favor of tradition, and F1 has to stay the same. ”

F1 is unabashedly trying to appeal to younger audiences, and Prost admits that the sport has done the right thing in nurturing the next generation of F1 fans, but it must stick to its own principles and traditions.

Prost said: "I must admit that with the launch of the Netflix series of movies, we have more and more young fans, we attract some young people, which is fantastic. They obviously like the kind of races we see, sprint races and Lewis' races in Brazil, but F1 has to keep the tradition. ”
