The wharf where the emperor landed, set up a color tent and carpet, and the main officials put on the most delicious court clothes and knelt down to greet them. The emperor came ashore, the officials hugged back and forth, reported their political achievements, and if they received a few words of praise and encouragement, as if they heard the Lei Yin Buddhist language, the promotion was at hand.
The Inspector of Shandong came to greet him, but he did not see Yan Xishen, the prefect of Jining. The prefect Yan Xishen did not dare to despise the emperor, only because the canal was flooded, flooding many villages, he was in the countryside to relieve the disaster, too late to rush back to pick up the driver. Furious, he ordered the Inspector of Shandong to find Yan Xishen and his mother to pick him up.
So he sent someone to escort Yan Xishen, the governor of Jining Province, but in return, Yan Xishen was not in the palace, so he had to escort his mother to Qianlong. Qianlong was a little angry and said to Mother Yan: Where is your son? What a bold. Mother Yan cried and said: A few days ago, there was a heavy flood in several counties below Jining Province, and the victims suffered serious losses, and the old man knew that the emperor regarded the people as sons, so he ordered my son to go to the countryside to relieve the disaster, not wanting to come back until now, and delaying the time to take over.
The empress dowager nodded her head and said, "You have a heart of compassion." The kingdom has no people, and there is no king. Your son has a heart for the people, and his feelings are forgivable, and he should be forgiven for the crime of delaying the delivery of the driver's errands, and he should also be rewarded. So why hasn't he come back yet?"
Not long after, Yan Xishen hurriedly arrived, only to see that he was muddy water from head to toe, his face was tired, his official appearance was not neat, he saw the emperor prostrate his head and apologize, only to see that his whole body was mud from head to toe, and his clothes did not have time to change before he came to see the emperor, saying that "the emperor inspected Jining Andchen ben made preparations, did not want the flood to flood, the minister had to go to the countryside to relieve the disaster and open a warehouse to release grain, delayed the pick-up, and hoped that His Majesty would forgive the crime."
After hearing this, Qianlong was not only not angry, but very happy and praised it. Soon, Yan Xishen was promoted several levels in a row, and he became the inspector of Hunan, as well as a high position such as a soldier's attendant. Moreover, Qianlong attached great importance to it, and after his death, he was included in the Who's Who of the Great Qing Dynasty. He is also a famous Qing official, a good official.
