On the morning of January 1, local time, a police officer in New York City, USA, was hit by a bullet in the temple while sleeping in the car, fortunately did not hurt the key parts of the brain, and it is expected to fully recover.

The Associated Press quoted New York City Police Commissioner Kichant Hughell as reporting that the shot police officers were on duty in Central Park on December 31, 2021, because the police dormitory beds were full, they slept in a private car in a nearby parking lot, preparing to return to work at 7:30 a.m. on January 1.

At about 6:15 a.m. local time on January 1, the policeman was awakened by the sound of the window glass breaking, and then felt pain on the left side of his head. Colleagues saw him bleeding from the head.

The police officer who was shot was taken to the hospital for rescue. Doctors perform surgery on him and remove shrapnel. Doctors say the bullet went into the temples, causing a skull fracture that was only a few millimeters away from hurting a critical place in the brain.

It was unclear whether anyone had deliberately fired at the officer, whose bullets had apparently come "from a great distance" because the officers sleeping in a nearby private car did not hear the gunshots.

New York City police are searching for the shooter, offering a $10,000 reward for clues.
