In the fifty-eighth year of The Kangxi Dynasty, he was transferred to Hubu as a waiter, and at that time, because the prince in charge of the Hubu took kickbacks, he embarrassed the prince in person.
Such Li Wei was appreciated by the Prince of Yong at that time, and after Yongzheng ascended the throne, Li Wei was appointed to YanyiDao in Yunnan. The following year, he was promoted to envoy of Yunnan Province. During his tenure as an official in Yunnan, Li Wei was not afraid of arrogance and strength, and was soon transferred by the emperor to be the governor of Zhejiang.
During his tenure in Zhejiang, he took many rectification measures to deal with the rampant problem of salt thieves, so that the illegal salt was significantly reduced; Li Wei implemented Yongzheng's decrees to the letter, such as the case of Raiding and Raiding Siting (Jin Yong's ancestor) and Wang Jingqi, and the imperial court ordered the suspension of the Zhejiang people's township tests and meeting tests, which Li Wei strictly enforced.
Until the early years of Qianlong, Li Wei still maintained his style as an official and was praised by Qianlong.
In the three years of Qianlong, Li Wei was seriously ill, and many treatments were fruitless, and finally he died at home, ending his life.
