Why was the 359th Regiment of the Volunteer Army fighting against the American Army written into the history of the war by the Japanese?

By making history our own, we move from history to eternity.

In late November 1950, in order to ensure that the 118th Division annihilated the American troops in Xinxingdong, Huang Guozhong, deputy commander of the 120th Division of the 40th Army of the Volunteer Army, and Li Lin, commander of the 359th Regiment, and the head of the first division and regiment of the regiment formulated a complete battle plan after repeated study.

The specific arrangements were: one company to hold the 326 heights; the fourth and fifth companies each formed a platoon and a battalion to hold the western legs of the 326 highlands, blocking the enemy's retreat route in Xinxingdong; the second company guarded the Yulong Pudong Mountain and intercepted the reinforcements in the direction of the stadium; the three companies were the reserves of the first battalion, which were deployed on the south side of the 326 highlands; and the three battalions, as the reserve of the regiment, controlled the 388 and 422.6 highlands to ensure the flank and rear safety of the first battalion.

After the deployment was adjusted, the battalion companies immediately attacked and built fortifications, ready to fight the enemy.

On the morning of the 26th, the Second American Division began to fight back. Nearly one regiment of the US army with 40 tanks from the stadium was dispatched to advance toward Yulongpu; a battalion was also dispatched to The 326 Highlands; more than 20 aircraft were dispatched at the same time to take turns to attack; and more than 70 artillery pieces were concentrated and continuously bombarded.

Relying on the fortifications, the 359th Regiment of the Volunteer Army calmly responded to the battle, always putting the enemy at the closest distance and suddenly firing. From morning to noon, from noon to afternoon, a large number of enemies were killed and wounded, and the three-dimensional attack of the US army was repelled again and again.

The hardest part of the fight was the second company that insisted on holding on to the East Mountain of Yulong Pudong. The fortifications there were flattened by artillery fire, and the deputy company commander and instructor were killed and injured one after another, and the three platoons had suffered more than half of the casualties.

Deputy instructor Sun Chengfang designated the second platoon commander Han Shenggao as the deputy company commander. They took advantage of the gap between battles to reorganize their organizations, repair fortifications, and continue to fight hard with the enemy.

At about 13:00, more than one company of the US army launched two more attacks on the second company, but was repelled.

At 15:00, the enemy again dispatched aircraft to drop bombs and strafe, concentrated artillery fire and fierce bombardment, and covered the attack of two US companies. Han Shenggao commanded the whole company to fight in blood, and when the bullets ran out, they were smashed with stones. When the American troops rushed up, they raised their bayonets and white blades to fight and shoot the enemy down.

At about 16:00, two companies of the US army attacked the mountain again, and Han Shenggao was seriously wounded. Deputy Instructor Sun Chengfang led the soldiers to repel the enemy twice in a row. The enemy then launched the next attack, breaking through some of the positions. The volunteer army on the mountain was less than a squad, and there was a huge disparity, and the soldiers were a little flustered, and subconsciously turned to evacuate.

"Don't go! All back! Sun Chengfang stood tall and shouted, "We must fulfill our promise, vow to coexist and die with the position, and fight to the end with one person and one shot!" The warriors were stopped and gathered around the deputy instructor to fight to the death.

Sun Chengfang was wounded in many places and died heroically. Everyone's hearts were on fire, and they shouted, "Avenge Deputy Instructor Sun!" "Swear to coexist and die with the position!" They rushed forward and finally drove away the enemy and regained their positions.

At this time, there were only 4 men left on the position of the second company. It was nearly dusk, the mountains were like the sea, and the heroic positions filled with gun smoke were full of cruelty and tragedy.

Soldier Chen Xuejun went to the battalion to get ammunition, and only 4 grenades were brought in total. The enemy attacked again, and two more soldiers of the Second Company were killed or wounded.

In an emergency, Instructor Han came up with reinforcements from the battalion commanders, hygienists, and cooks, threw 60 shells as grenades, and repelled the enemy's attack.

The officers and men of the Second Company held their positions for 14 hours, repelled eight attacks by one battalion of the enemy, and killed and wounded more than 200 American troops.

The first company on Hill 326 and the two platoons of the fourth and fifth companies also repelled many American attacks in a row.

The hero's position stands majestically, like a sharp knife, piercing the enemy's heart socket; like a steel nail, firmly nailed to the bank of the Cheongcheon River.

The 359th Regiment was awarded the General Order of commendation from the Volunteer Command and the Fortieth Army Headquarters, and the commendation speech read:

Why was the 359th Regiment of the Volunteer Army fighting against the American Army written into the history of the war by the Japanese?

"This time the ministry resolutely carried out the order, successfully completed the task of cutting off the enemy's retreat, and created an example of boldly dividing the enemy and destroying the enemy's firepower position in one fell swoop.

Because both the offensive and defensive sides of this battle exerted their respective combat strength to the extreme, it was written into the history of the war by the Japanese. In the history of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea compiled by the Japan Land War History Research and Popularization Association, the B Company of the Ninth Regiment of the US Second Division repeatedly competed with the Volunteer Army for The 326 Heights with the support of tanks.

The B Company of the Ninth Regiment of the US Second Division was known as the "Iron stone company", but the "iron stone company" was also smashed to pieces by the volunteers and was helpless. At the beginning of the offensive , " the actual personnel of Company B were 129 men " , and finally " Company B suppressed the enemy at the top of the hill with its own firepower and retreated ... At that time, the personnel of Company B had been reduced to 34. ...... After the battle lost 95 people. ”
