What does dual motors mean for electric vehicles? Weilai driving experience engineer has something to say

【Smart Car Pie News】As winter gradually enters the country, the travel experience of many new energy vehicles is not particularly comfortable. As we all know, winter is not friendly to new energy vehicles, and short battery life and skidding have become the "norm", but some models equipped with dual motors + four-wheel drive drive solutions can also be calm in winter, why is this? On December 28, Chao Zhang, a driving experience engineer at NIO, shared the product logic and technical strength behind THE STANDARD dual motor and four-wheel drive system of NIO.

Weilai driving experience engineers said that electric vehicles equipped with dual motors can obtain more efficient and stable power output, but the reasons for not becoming the standard for electric vehicles are divided into several points, first of all, manufacturing costs, in the fierce price competition market segment will affect consumers' purchase decisions; followed by mileage, the weight and energy consumption of one more motor will consume a part of the electrical energy, affecting the mileage. In response to this, Weilai gave the solution of "sprint trapeze" + "long-distance runner".

Take WEILAI ET7 as an example, which is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor + asynchronous induction motor, in which the permanent magnet synchronous motor does not need to wait for the magnetic field to establish when accelerating, the response is more agile, the acceleration is more rapid, and the asynchronous induction motor does not need additional power to offset the resistance of the natural magnetic field when idling, and it is more energy-saving when being dragged in the two-wheel drive state. At the same time, by adjusting the position (front/rear) of the commonly used motor, the permanent magnet motor, it is also possible to achieve a more front-drive/rear-drive power output for different models, bringing a richer driving experience.
