Born in 1909 in Wugang, Hunan Province, Xia Guang entered the Wuchang Central Peasant Movement Training Institute in 1927, where he studied the theory of the peasant movement in depth, joined the Communist Party of China shortly after, and has been engaged in underground intelligence work ever since. However, due to the blows of the reactionary government, Xia Guang broke off contact with the organization, and he kept looking for the organization, but he could not find it until 1938, when Xia Guang experienced a gap of nearly ten years, and finally got in touch with the party organization again and rejoined the party.
After that, Xia Guang came to the New Fourth Army, successively served as the staff officer of the first detachment of the New Fourth Army, the combat staff officer of the first detachment of the six regiments, etc. In October 1939, the Jiangkang East Road Headquarters (Xinjiangkang) was established, and Xia Guang was elected as the commander, but when the New Jiangkang was established, there were two shortages of guns (in fact, there were only more than thirty wounded). In order to get the gun, Xia Guang personally found Zhou Jialu, the former leader of the Jiang resistance detachment, and through him persuaded his friend Gao Faquan to offer a light machine gun and ten rifles. These weapons were used to form a special agent company, and soon the special agent company grew to more than a hundred people, who later became the backbone of the Xinjiang Resistance.
After the establishment of the Xinjiang Resistance, on the one hand, they waged a struggle against the Japanese and the puppets, and on the other hand, they constantly recruited the masses and local armed forces to resist the war. In February 1940, Xia Guang personally led a team to ambush the steamboats of the Japanese puppet army, and then the Japanese garrison attacked the Xinjiang Resistance on a large scale, Xia Guang led the team to fight back, the two sides fought for a whole day, the battle was still very anxious, there was no progress, and the devils had to retreat.
In April 1940, Tan Zhenlin was transferred to Xinjiang kang as commander, while Xia Guang was made chief of staff. Although he no longer serves as a commander, but as the chief of staff, the burden on his body is not light, he is not only the specific commander of daily military activities, but also Tan Zhenlin is busy with affairs, a person often can not handle it, Xia Guang took the initiative to share the army affairs for him. After the Anhui Incident, the Central Military Commission reorganized the New Fourth Army, Tan Zhenlin was promoted to the commander of the Sixth Division, the New Jiang Kang was reorganized into the Eighteenth Brigade of the Sixth Division, and Xia Guang still served as the chief of staff. Since then, Xia Guang has successively served as chief of staff of the first sub-district of the Soviet Central Military Region of the New Fourth Army, chief of staff of the Teaching Brigade of the Soviet Central Military Region, and chief of staff of the fourth column of the New Fourth Army of the Soviet-Zhejiang Military Region. During the Liberation War, Xia Guang successively served as the chief of staff of the Central China Field Army Headquarters and the chief of the Staff Office of the East China Field Army Headquarters.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xia Guang left the army and served as the principal of the East China Naval School, and was awarded the rank in 1955, with his seniority, the lieutenant general should have no problem, but because he had not served in the army, he was not awarded a rank. Since then, Xia Guang has successively served as vice president of Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology, deputy director of the Party History Materials Collection Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and president of Guangxi Institute of Technology.
