On December 27, local time in the United States, a gunman in Denver, Colorado, opened fire on passers-by, killing at least four people and injuring three others, including a police officer. The gunman himself was subsequently shot dead by the police.

Denver police cordoned off streets for investigation
Denver Police Chief Paul Parson said at a news conference late Monday that there had been shootings at four locations in downtown Denver. The first shooting, just after 5 p.m., was shot at the scene of three people, killing two adult women and injuring one adult man.
The suspect then fled in a car, shooting another man near a park in eastern Denver and escaping again.
The suspect then opened fire again in the West Denver community, but no injuries were reported. According to Parson, the suspect twice exchanged fire from his car with the police who were pursuing him, and also paralyzed one of the police cars.
According to Lakewood Police spokesman John Romero, the gunman drove into the neighboring city of Lakewood after that and fled as Lakewood police tried to arrest him and engaged in a series of gun battles with police before fleeing on foot into a hotel where he shot and killed a clerk.
Romero told reporters that the gunman then opened fire again at the police, injuring one of the officers. Police said there were multiple gun battles between the police and the suspect, and eventually the suspect was killed at the scene. Afterwards, the injured police officers have been taken to hospitals for surgical treatment, and the condition of other injured civilians is unclear.
Authorities did not disclose the identity of the suspect, nor did they know the motives of the gunman for the time being, and said the situation was still under investigation.
