During the Republic of China period, due to its remote location and closed traffic, bandits were more murderous and extremely cruel. Zhang Dazhi is a famous murderous demon king in the Xiangxi region. Anyone caught by his men, whether peasants or rival bandits, he liked to kill themselves.
Sometimes it's a stab to death, sometimes it's a zero-knife stab. While killing people, he smiled and said to his subordinates, "It is easier to kill a person than to kill a pig." Killing pigs also needs to be salted, and killing people is much easier. "Once, he took the bandits to a peasant's house and forced him to pay the tobacco tax.

The peasant, because his wife had not given birth soon, had no smoke or money in his home, and he could not pay it. Zhang Dazhi grabbed the baby for several months and threatened to kill him. The peasant couple pleaded bitterly for some grace. Zhang Dazhi saw that he really couldn't force the money, so he nailed the baby to the wall with a bayonet, and laughed while cruelly admiring the trembling of the child's hands and feet. In the more than 10 years that he was a bandit, he killed, strangled, and buried more than 3,000 people with his own hands.
The bandit leader Peng Yuqing's marksmanship is extremely accurate, and Su Xi kills people for pleasure. Once, after he led bandits to loot a village, he saw a farmer in the field hoeing the field. He asked his men, "Do you think that is a living person or a dead person?" The subordinates naturally replied that they were alive. Without a word, Peng Yuqing raised his hand and shot it, and the farmer fell to the ground in response.
Another time, his pressed lady said, "Your eyes are a little red. He listened, immediately ran out, killed the man and came back, laughing and asking, "Look again, are your eyes still red?" From then on, he claimed that if his eyes were red, he would have to kill people; if he killed people, his eyes would not be red.
The old bandit Yao Dabang has been a bandit for more than 60 years, and naturally kills a lot of people, so he is most afraid of having enemies assassinate him. For this reason, his two Browning pistols never left his body, and when talking to people, he always touched the gun in his hand, and when he felt that it was not right, he killed people first. One year on the first day of the first lunar month, Liu Qing in Huang county town made the east of the oil number, invited Yao Dabang to a banquet, and accompanied many guests.
After eating, the guests played cards and chatted. At this time, a businessman stepped over and took the initiative to talk with Yao Dabang. When Yao Dabang saw this person's face, he couldn't help but be confused, so he was vain and snake-like, and on the other hand, he touched the handle of the gun in his clothes to prevent accidents. Without saying a few words, the merchant suddenly coughed, and the more he coughed, the more intense it became. Yao Dabang stared at him intently. I saw that the man's tears also came out, and he reached into the placket to pull out the hand towel. Yao Dabang believed that the man's cough was a ruse, intending to take out a gun and stab him, so he quickly drew his pistol and shot the man to death.
The punishment of bandits in western Hunan is also more cruel than in other regions. Long Yunfei, the leader of the Miao bandits in Fenghuang County, became a bandit at the age of eighteen or nineteen, and later hooked up with the Kuomintang regime and became an official bandit, controlling Fenghuang, Mayang, Jishou and other counties, and proclaiming himself the King of Miao. In order to consolidate his rule, on the one hand, he tried his best to provoke ethnic disputes between the local Han and Miao residents, such as leading the Miao people to burn and kill the Miao village, and spreading rumors afterwards that the Han people did it; and vice versa.
On the other hand, he slaughtered the people and inflicted all sorts of terrible punishments. He specifically searched for a terrifying bottomless pit called the Ghost Cave. When his family's long-term workers and slaves, when they were sick and unable to work, they were thrown into the hole and starved to death. Those who violated the Miao King were also thrown into the ghost cave. Therefore, the cave is white and smelly. In addition, he set punishments such as gouging out the eyes, dissecting the belly, piercing the nostrils with a red-hot wire, and so on.
One year, Long Yunfei ordered a tailor surnamed Tian to make a dragon robe for him. Tian Tailor firstly believed that the dragon robe could only be worn by the emperor, and sewing it privately would cause great trouble in the future; second, because every time he made clothes for Long Yunfei, he always had to lose money, worried that the cost of the dragon robe clothing was too large and could not afford it, so he absconded to the countryside. Long Yunfei was furious when he heard the news, and sent people to pursue him, captured the tailor of the field, tied it to a pillar in the middle of the field, and drove the nearby people to watch.
On the first day, Long Yunfei scolded the tailor of tian for "seeing the Miao King", and had his eyes gouged out with an iron hook; the next day, he pierced his nostrils with a red-hot wire, indicating that the people were just a livestock of the Miao King. What was particularly cruel was that on the third day, Long Yunfei used a knife to cut a hole in tian tailor's body, and then had people clamp it with iron tongs and tear off a strip of human skin from him. The tailor at first screamed a few times in pain, but soon passed out. The surrounding crowd bowed their heads and did not dare to look again. However, Long Yunfei ordered people to weave human skins into whips and hang them in front of the gate of King Miao's residence to intimidate the other people.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Shen Drun, a special agent of the military command, served as the director of the inspection department of the Changde Military Police in Western Hunan Province, responsible for local public security. Once, he dealt with peng chunrong, a nearby bandit, and afterwards Peng gave him a saddle. The saddle, the head of the harness, and the reins are all made of human skin, and the saddle is surrounded by a circle of human thumb nails. It is said that this saddle is only eligible for use by the first chair of the bandits in the mountains. Shen Drunk's mother was a Buddhist believer, and when she learned of this, she ordered Shen Drunk to burn the saddle and burn paper to comfort the deceased.
