According to foreign media sources, Apple is developing an iPhone that does not require a physical SIM card and relies entirely on eSIM for the iPhone, and it is expected that Apple will adopt this design for the first time on the iPhone 15 Pro model in 2023.
Although the current iPhone 13 series can already be completely dependent on eSIM operation, Apple still retains the physical SIM card slot to give users enough buffer time.
Of course, in some countries or regions that don't support eSIM services, Apple will still keep the physical SIM design for local users, and other markets will use iPhones without SIM designs.
